  • Colma: The Musical is a 2007 independent rock musical film shot on location in Colma, a small town just south of San Francisco, California. What makes Colma a unique and interesting setting for this coming-of-age story is the large number of dead people in the town; most of the land is made up of cemeteries, and the living population numbers fewer than 1500. Yet director Richard Wong has made this a lively, rocking, song-and-dance film that stars three recent high school graduates who are learning to navigate their lives as adults. As they seek direction and pursue opportunities, the simplicity of their childhood friendships are strained and tested, and they begin to figure out what is worth preserving. The film's script originated in a concept album by H.P. Mendoza, and 13 of the album's songs are featured in the film. These clever, fun songs serve as a conduit for the teens' expressions of their hopes, disappointments, and confusion.moreless
