  • Easy Rider is a 1969 counterculture Americana film that follows two long-haired bikers on their cross-country trip from Los Angeles to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. On their journey, they encounter a unique cast of characters that make their trip enjoyable and seem like an adventure. Easy Rider explores the societal lifestyles in the United States that many Americans were experiencing in the 1960's, many dealing with experimentation of drug use, communal living, and the hippie movement. The protagonists are two bike-riding drug dealers: Wyatt, nicknamed "Captain America" (Peter Fonda), and Billy (Dennis Hopper). Wyatt and Billy are on their way to Mardi Gras to celebrate their huge score from a narcotics deal with a "connection" (Phil Spector) in Los Angeles. Along the way, they meet hitchhikers, prostitutes, farmers and most notably George Hanson (Jack Nicholson), an alcoholic lawyer whom is a square. All of whom are symbolic in their attempt to represent the several different micro-cultures that made up the United States. Easy Rider has since become a classic film because of its brashness in portraying real drug use, the hippie movement, and because of it's groundbreaking soundtrack, which featured Jimmie Hendrix, Steppenwolf, among others. Billy and Captain America are two bad ass motorcycle riders whom want to experience everything America has to offer.moreless
