  • Good Night, and Good Luck is a dramatic film directed by George Clooney that centers on the conflict that occurred between a veteran radio and television journalist Edward R. Murrow and U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy during the peak of the anti-communist investigations of the early 1950s. While corporations, sponsors, and reporters alike cower in fear of potentially falling under McCarthy's war against those deemed Communist sympathizers within the government, Murrow (David Strathairn) sticks to his convictions and even goes to investigate the none to friendly or entirely truthful tactics used by McCarthy (represented by archive footage) on his program See It Now. With the support of his coworkers, correspondent Joseph Wershba (Robert Downey, Jr.) and co-producer Fred Friendly (George Clooney), he takes on the pressure of CBS as well as the accusations that he is a communist as the historic fight between freedom of speech and the fear of a political witch hunt reaches its peak. Good Night, and Good Luck was nominated for multiple Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for George Clooney, and Best Original Screenplay.moreless
