  • It's in the Bag is a 1945 comedy directed by Richard Wallace that is based on The Twelve Chairs, a popular Russian novel written by Ilya Ilf and Evgeny Petrov. Fred Floogle (Fred Allen), the owner of a struggling flea circus, is surprised to learn that he has just inherited $12 million from his eccentric uncle, Frederick Trumble (Lloyd Ingraham). When he learns that this inheritance actually just consists of 13 old, worn-out chairs, he immediately sells them at an auction. After he discovers that the cash was actually stuffed into one of the chairs that he just sold, he goes on a series of hilarious misadventures with his wife Eve (Binnie Barnes) to retrieve the treasure. It's in the Bag is a classic film that features plenty of laugh-out-loud, slapstick comedy and cameo appearances by some of the greatest comics of all time, such as Jack Benny, Robert Benchley, and Jerry Colonna.moreless
