  • Kentucky Fried Movie is a 1977 feature film directed by John Landis. It was written by Jim Abrahams and David and Jerry Zucker, a team that went on to write Airplane and the Naked Gun series. Kentucky Fried Movie is considered the original parody and spoof film that led to many more movies of this genre in America. The film has no single plot and instead is composed of a series of parodies, making fun of the earnestness and dryness of postwar American film. However, Kentucky Fried Movie does not limit its humorous criticism to domestic film; the longest segment is a spoof called Fistful of Yen, a parody of martial arts films, a genre that twenty-five years later would be spoofed again by Steve Oedekerk in his film, Kung Pow! Enter the Fist. Abrahams and the Zucker brothers also make fun of public service announcements, movie trailers and high school science films. Despite its disjointed plot, Kentucky Fried Movie was one of the most successful and profitable movies of the entire 1970s and is still a cult film favorite.moreless
