  • Latter Days is a romantic dramedy about the romantic relationship between a closeted Mormon missionary and his neighbor and the consequences of being a gay Mormon. The movie stars Steve Sandvoss as the closeted gay missionary Elder Aaron Davis and Wes Ramsey as his lover Christian. William Markelli Supporting actors include Joseph Gordon-Levitt a(s Elder Ryder), Rebekah Johnson (as Julie Taymor), Mary Kay Place, Amber Benson, and Jacqueline Bisset. Latter Days was the first film to directly about the conflict between the gay community and the Church of Latter Day Saints, as it accurately portrays the internal conflict the gay members of the church go through, and the external conflict those that are out are forced to experience, as Aaron is forced to choose between his faith and his own sexuality, or face excommunication from the Mormon Church. The film was considered to be controversial since many Mormon groups called for its boycott, while gay groups praised its refreshing and truthful look at a situation that many young men and women have to deal with every day.moreless
