Laurel & Hardy: March of the Wooden Soldiers, also known by several alternate titles including Revenge is Sweet and Babes in Toyland, was first released in November 1934. This musical film, directed by Gus Meins and Charley Rogers, was based on Victor Herbert's 1903 operetta entitled, Babes in Toyland. The film takes place in Toyland and includes popular fairy tale characters like Mother Goose. The plot begins with the characters Stannie Dum and Ollie Dee (Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy) who live together in a shoe with Mother Peep (Florence Roberts) and Little Bo Peep (Charlotte Henry). The villain of the story is Silas Barnaby (Henry Brandon) who owns the shoe, and is also seeking to marry Little Bo Peep. Unfortunate events in the story lead to comedic and unexpected drama. As the story continues, Stannie and Ollie must hatch mischievous and comical plans to dupe Barnaby, and to stay afloat during difficult times in Toyland.moreless
