  • Li'L Abner is a classic musical comedy that was first a cartoon strip, and then a Broadway musical. The film keeps all the humor and vim of its predecessors, delivering a non-stop barrel of laughs in this love triangle''' square. Li'l Abner (Peter Palmer) is an ordinary kid in the town of Dogpatch, which is about to be turned into an atomic testing ground. His mother's Yokumberry tonic might convince the government that the town ought to be saved, but Li'l Abner himself will need a little more help. Daisy Mae (Leslie Parrish) wants to marry him, Earthquake McGoon (Bern Hoffman) wants to marry her, and a general's ditzy secretary gets caught up in the mix in a plot to keep Dogpatch on the road to nuclear ruin. Between all the plots, schemes, songs, and silly moments, it's a chaotic riot of action and drama, and all seems engineered to keep Daisy Mae from her one true love. Just one more move, and it all could come crashing down... until a stroke of insight gives the citizens of Dogpatch -- and the star-crossed couple -- another chance at salvation.moreless
