  • My Blue Heaven is a goofy 1990 fish-out-of-water comedy with sharp script by Nora Ephron ("Sleepless in Seattle"). The Federal Witness Protection Program sends mobster Vincent 'Vinnie' Antonelli (Steve Martin) to a small California town after he turns informant. Uptight FBI agent Barney Coopersmith (Rick Moranis) gets the assignment of protecting the fast-talking con artist from the hit men coming his way. After his wife leaves him, Vinnie turns to petty crime for entertainment, and then calls in his buddy Billy Sparrow (William Hickey) to form a suburban crime syndicate. District Attorney (Joan Cusack) keeps an eye on Vinnie's activities in hopes of prosecuting him, which puts Barney in the awkward position of preventing her from upholding the law. Vinnie sees their potential match as the perfect cover for his illegal activities. So, he guides Barney through the fine art of romance. Director Herbert Ross ("Steel Magnolias") makes delightful use of the comedy chemistry between the super slick Martin and bumbling Moranis.moreless
