Priest of Love, directed by Christopher Miles, is a 1981 biographical drama about the rebellious life of famous author D.H. Lawrence (Ian McKellen). In the movie, D.H. Lawrence ignores a request of the British government, so, his book, The Rainbow, is banned and burned. To flee their dramatic surroundings Lawrence flees England with his wife, Frieda (Janet Suzman). The couple move to the United States briefly, and then Mexico. While in Mexico, Lawrence becomes sick and his wife has no choice but to take him back to England. The couple is not comfortable in England and when he feels well enough, Frieda moves him to Italy. The drama depicts Lawrence's constant rebellious behavior that makes his life more difficult. Some of his ideas that resulted in trouble for him include his stand against World War I, his turbulent relationship with his wife, his constant conflicting opinions with authorities and his struggles with his own sexuality.moreless
