  • Shadows is a classic silent film from 1922. The movie is about life in a small seafaring town. A newly arrived Christian pastor (Harrison Ford the 1st) falls in love with a woman he believes to be a widow (Marguerite de la Motte). The two marry and live a joyful life until a man pretending to be their friend (John St. Polis) devises a way to make the pastor think his wife's first husband is still alive. The so-called friend forces the pastor to pay a bribe in order to avoid having his wife shamed in front of the townspeople. A humble Chinese man named Lin Sen (Lon Chaney) discovers the false friend's trickery and reveals it to the pastor. Lin Sen is amazed that the pastor is able to forgive this false friend for what he did. Lin Sen is so moved, in fact, that he is converted to Christianity. Lin had never seen a person's faith in action until the pastor forgave his enemy, as Jesus Christ forgave his enemies.moreless
