  • Sideshow: Alive on the Inside is a 1996 documentary that looks beyond the circus tent and into the ordinary lives of the human oddities or "freaks" during their off-stage hours. Jason Alexander of "Seinfeld" fame narrates this rare opportunity to meet the World's Tallest Woman (Sandy Allen), the Wolf Boys of Mexico and the Human Blockhead, Melvin Burkhardt. The film spans back through the history of the "Freak Show" and shows archival footage of former stars like the Human Pincushion, bearded ladies, Zip the Pinheaded Man, and Siamese twins, Chang and Eng Bunker. Director Lynn Dougherty looks beyond the deformities and the unusual work life. The filmmakers take a tour of their personal lives. Jeanie Tomaini, also known as the World's Only Living Half Woman, married a fellow performer, and they live in a normal household when not on the road. Percilla the Monkey Girl who was born covered in hair, married Giant from the sideshow, but they live a suburban lifestyle. This unusual film covers the historical and modern-day "freak" and reveals how ordinary they are.moreless
