  • Silkwood is a drama that tells the true story of Karen Silkwood, a noted whistleblower in the nuclear power industry. In the film, Karen Silkwood (Meryl Streep) works at a company that makes fuel rods for nuclear power plants. She lives with her boyfriend, Drew Stephens (Kurt Russell) and a lesbian friend, Dolly Pelliker (Cher). Together, the three of them live a hard-partying lifestyle that is interrupted by long, tedious days at work. Things get worse when the company falls behind on the delivery of a large order of fuel rods and forces employees to begin working longer and longer hours at the plant. Karen eventually starts experiencing symptoms of radiation sickness and begins to investigate the company. She finds rampant evidence of corporate misconduct and goes to Washington D.C. to lobby for tighter safety regulations for workers. As she does so, her life at home begins to fall apart. Her boyfriend leaves her and threats from her company grow increasingly violent.moreless
