  • On their action-filled journey, new recruits: Kirk, Bones, Sulu, Uhurra and Chekov have to stop a Romulan force who is on a mission of vengeance that threatens all mankind. Kirk and Spock begin as bitter rivals, with Kirk being a delinquent, emotional thrill-seeker, and Spock being the opposite; a logic-based stoic. When a Romulan ship is found drilling into Vulcan's core, it is discovered that captain Nero is drilling red matter into the core, which creates a black hole and consumes the planet and its residents. Under the pressure of unimaginable danger, the two form an unlikely but powerful partnership to lead the crew to victory in the hit film adaptation of the TV classic, Star Trek.moreless

    • Sarek: Emotions run deep within our race. In many ways, more deeply than in humans. Logic offers a serenity humans seldom experience. The control of feelings, so that they do not control you.

    • Kirk: So, you're a cadet, your studying. What's your focus?
Uhura: Xenolinguistics. You have no idea what that means.
Kirk: The study of alien languages. Morphology, phonology, syntax. It means you've got a talented tongue.
Uhura: I'm impressed. For a moment there I thought you were a dumb hick who only has sex with farm animals.
      Kirk: Well, not only.

    • Kirk: I think these things are pretty safe.
Bones: Don't pander to me, kid. One tiny crack in the hull and our blood boils in 13 seconds. A solar flare might crop up, cook us in our seats. And wait till you're sitting pretty with a case of Andorian shingles. See if you're still so relaxed when your eyeballs are bleeding. Space is disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence.
Kirk: Well, I hate to break this to you, but Starfleet operates in space.
Bones: Yeah, well, I got nowhere else to go. The ex-wife took the whole damn planet in the divorce. All I got left is my bones.

    • Bones: Permission to speak freely, sir.
      Spock: I welcome it.
Bones: Do you? Okay, then. Are you out of your Vulcan mind? Are you making a logical choice, sending Kirk away? Probably. But the right one? You know, back home we got a saying, "If you're gonna ride in the Kentucky Derby, you don't leave your prize stallion in the stable."
Spock: A curious metaphor, Doctor, as a stallion must first be broken before it can reach its potential.
Bones: My God, man, you could at least act like it was a hard decision.
Spock: I intend to assist in the effort to reestablish communications with Starfleet. However, if crew morale is better served by my roaming the halls weeping, I will gladly defer to your medical expertise. Excuse me. (Spock walks away)
      Bones: Green-blooded hobgoblin.

    • Sarek: Speak your mind, Spock.
      Spock: That would be unwise.
Sarek: What is necessary is never unwise.
