  • Sweet Liberty is a 1986 comedy that satirizes the movie industry. Michael Burgess (Alan Alda) is a history professor who has sold the movie rights to his new book on the American Revolution. Instead of staying true to the facts, the film, which is shot in the New England town where Michael lives, becomes a somewhat seedy love story between the main characters, played by Elliot James (Michael Caine) and Faith Healy (Michelle Pfeiffer). While Michael watches in horror as his book is completely dismantled, his home life also provides some drama. With a quirky mother who believes in conspiracy theories and a girlfriend he can't seem to commit to, Michael falls for Faith, not realizing that her sweet demeanor is merely a role she plays as a method actor. Meanwhile, the film crew clashes with the local militia, and The Battle of Cowpens depicts a naked victory celebration. This film was highly acclaimed for its lead actors' comedic portrayals.moreless
