  • The Country Girl, directed by George Seaton, is a 1954 musical drama, and an adaptation of a Clifford Odets play of the same name. The story focuses on Hollywood actor, Frank Elgin (Bing Crosby). Many years earlier, Elgin had a very promising career and a beautiful family. Unfortunately, tragedy fell upon his family and changed Elgin forever. Now, Elgin can barely take care of himself and leaves all his responsibilities to his wife, Gerdie (Grace Kelly). When Elgin auditions for Bernie Dodd (William Holden), a prominent Hollywood director, he is immediately cast, despite disapproval from Philip Cook (Anthony Ross), the show producer. After a short time working together, Dodd realizes Elgin has more than a few personality problems. Due to conversations he has overheard, Dodd blames most of the star's problems on his wife, Gerdie. Can Elgin resurrect his career, or has he been out of the game for too long?moreless
