  • The Great Locomotive Chase, directed by Francis D. Lyon, is a 1956 Disney family adventure film based on real events that occurred in 1862 during the American Civil War. In the movie, James J. Andrews (Fess Parker) is the leader of a unique group of Union soldiers. These soldiers are given a dangerous task by their superiors, and they are eager to participate and complete the mission. The task, which involves a Confederate railroad train, is a dangerous mission, but it will mean so much to the Union soldiers efforts in the war if completed. Andrews and his men begin their mission with great success, but run in to disastrous problems when someone on the train figures out what they are trying to do. The plan is difficult enough without someone working against the soldiers' efforts, the men must think quickly if they are going to pull off their mission. Can Andrews and his soldiers complete their mission for the Union, or are they in over their heads?moreless
