  • The Ox-Bow Incident is a Western released in 1943. The film opens with Gil Carter (Henry Fonda) and Art Croft (Harry Morgan) entering Darby's Saloon in the town of Bridger's Wells, Nevada. Several recent livestock thefts have left the townspeople suspicious and wary of the newcomers. Immediately after arriving, Gil learns that his girlfriend, Rose Mapen (Mary Beth Hughes) has left town and is newly married. While drinking away his sorrows in the saloon, Gil gets into a fight that is interrupted by the announcement that more livestock has been stolen and that a rancher has been murdered. The townspeople, joined by Gil and Art, form a posse and head out into the wilderness to try and find those responsible. They eventually find three men that they believe to be responsible and vote on whether they should be taken back to town to face trial or be hanged immediately. The Ox-Bow Incident explores the power of mob rule and the true nature of justice.moreless
