The Rack is a dramatic 1956 film directed by Arnold Laven. It follows the character of Captain Edward W. Hall Jr. (Paul Newman) who is a career soldier. He is being tried by the military court for collaborating with the enemy during the Korean War. Captain Hall is the son of a famous career officer, Colonel Edward W. Hall Sr. (Walter Pidgeon), and he is tainting his father's reputation with his court date. He swears that he is innocent, and tries to find a lawyer that will take his case. Finally, Major Sam Moulton (Wendell Corey) decides to take his case and a courtroom drama begins to unfold. This movie chronicles the psychological torture that happened during the Korean War from both sides, and brings that torture into the courtroom. Lawyers and judges all try to persuade Captain Hall to plead guilty, and put him through weeks and weeks of courtroom drama to finally find the truth.moreless
