  • Top Gun is an iconic 1986 action film following the talented but volatile fighter pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) as he and his copilot Nick “Goose” Bradshaw look to outperform uptight pilot Tom “Iceman” Kazansky (Val Kilmer) as the best in the class at the Navy’s esteemed Fighter Weapons School. Maverick must prove himself to those at the school who don’t appreciate his daring style of flying, as well as dealing with the legacy of his father, a former pilot himself whose death in combat is mysteriously classified. He must also struggle with his feelings for his civilian instructor “Charlie” Blackwood (Kelly McGillis), who is hesitant to risk her professionalism for a romance with Maverick. Top Gun is known for its use of music in memorable scenes throughout the film, such as the Top Gun theme “Danger Zone” and the volleyball scene using “Playing With the Boys”, both by Kenny Loggins, Goose singing “Great Balls of Fire”, the cadets all breaking into “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” at a bar, and the love scene featuring “Take My Breath Away.”moreless
