  • Trouble Along the Way, directed by Michael Curtiz, is a sports comedy starring John Wayne as a college football coach battling for custody of his daughter. Steve Williams (John Wayne), after being fired from his previous job for regulations violations, finds himself coaching the football team of a small Catholic college that is in danger of closing due to lack of funding. Under pressure from the school's dean, Father Burke (Charles Coburn), to whip the team into shape, Steve resorts to increasingly convoluted tactics to keep the players on track. In the meantime, Steve's vengeful ex-wife Anne (Marie Windsor) is seeking custody of their daughter Carol (Sherry Jackson), leading to an investigation of his parenting abilities by social worker Alice Singleton (Donna Reed). Produced by Warner Brothers Pictures, this heartwarming gem of a film is a unique and refreshing vehicle for the Duke, and his fans won't want to miss it.moreless
