  • Two for the Seesaw is a 1962 American film directed by Robert Wise and starring Robert Mitchum, Shirley MacLaine, and Edmon Ryan. The film is based on a play of the same name written by William Gibson and originally starring Henry Fonda and Anne Bancroft. Lawyer Jerry Ryan (Mitchum) is a recent transplant to New York City from Omaha, Nebraska. He is struggling with his separation from his wife, but is unsure if he wants to get a divorce. When he meets Gittel Mosca (MacLaine), a dancer from the Bronx, he immediately falls in love. Their relationship rarely sees fair weather, however, for Jerry is still emotionally attached to his wife and Gittel continues a sexual relationship with an old lover. Slowly they begin to realize that despite their attraction to each other, a relationship would not work. When she asks him to marry her, Jerry must then make a difficult decision.moreless
