Waiting for Guffman
- movie Description
Waiting for Guffman is a 1996 comedic mockumentary directed by Christopher Guest. Blaine, Missouri, may not be a major tourist destination, but to its residents, the tiny town has a rich history. With Blaine's 150th anniversary approaching, it is up to Corky St. Claire (Christopher Guest) to write and direct a stage play that will do the town justice. Since Corky hails from the New York theater scene, the locals put all their faith in his talents. Corky starts casting locals, including a Dairy Queen worker, Libby Mae Brown (Parker Posey), a bumbling dentist, Dr. Pearl (Eugene Levy), and a couple of over-eager amateur theater stars, Ron (Fred Willard) and Sheila (Catherine O'Hara). Undaunted by his ragtag group of performers, Corky creates a musical that celebrates everything about Blaine, including its role as "stool capital" and its reported UFO landings. Before opening night, Corky announces that an old theater friend from New York might just stop by to see the show. Fueled by the hope of heading to Broadway, the cast throw their hearts and souls into the performance, but their dreams just might be shattered.moreless
