  • What Price Glory, a 1952 film directed by John Ford and based on the original Broadway play by Maxwell Anderson, is simultaneously a World War I drama and a problematic love story. The film is set in the year 1918, and tells a tale of two American soldiers (James Cagney and Dan Dailey) stationed in France who both fall in love with the same woman, a French innkeeper's daughter named Charmaine (Corinne Calvet). The comedic rivalry of the two soldiers ensues as they struggle for the affections of Charmaine. However, the soldiers are soon confronted by the fact that Charmaine is angling to get a husband, and they find their affections reversed. Before this dramatic love story resolves itself, the soldiers are sent to the frontlines of war. The American soldiers work together to survive as they battle the German soldiers and confront the suffering and horrors of war. This is a touching story about war and love!moreless
