  • At an academy for mythological warriors, 17-year-old Hercules (Ian Bohen) meets Jason, the next in line to rule Corinth. When Jason discovers that his father is ill, Hercules decides to seek out the Golden Fleece that could cure him. But limitations to his powers, as well as his half-brother Ares, stand in his way. Filmed against the breathtaking scenery of New Zealand, this film directed by T.J. Scott is the pilot to the spin-off series Young Hercules and the prequel to the popular original series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.moreless

  • Trivia & Quotes
  • Quotes (3)

    • Ares: This is only the beginning, Hercules!

    • Ares: (referring to Hercules) Father's bastard? I haven't given him a thought in years.
Discord: He plays in your temple, even as we speak.
Ares: He's probably after the Urn I stole from Zeus. The little runt is trying to score points with Dad.
Discord: Not so little. He's eighteen now, tall, exceptionally strong and actually quite handsome. Let me go rip his face off!

    • Hercules: (seeing that Cheiron is a centaur) No offense, but I was told that you were a great warrior. What can I learn from you, how to pull a chariot? (Cheiron grabs his arm and flips him onto the ground)
      Cheiron: (smugly) No offense taken.

    • Estimated Budget: $3,500,000.

    • Filming Locations: St Lukes, Auckland, New Zealand (studio).

    • This was actually a direct-to-video movie spun-off from the series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. It then spawned the series on FOX but the lead actor Ian Bohen was replaced when he refused to commit to living in New Zealand for an extended period. He was replaced by Ryan Gosling.

    Trivia (3)

    • At the end of the movie, Hercules and Iolaus discuss the possibility of facing a three-headed monster. The first monster the duo faced in their first (aired) appearance ("Hercules and the Amazon Women") was the Hydra, which ended up growing three heads during the battle.

    • Clips of this movie were featured in the Hercules episode "Yes, Virginia, There is a Hercules".

    • Nitpick: The story of the Quest for the Golden Fleece would first be mentioned in the Hercules: The Legendary Journeys episode "Once A Hero". But none of the Argonauts who appeared in that episode were shown in this movie. Also, apart from Hercules (who didn't complete the quest) and Jason, not one of the Argonauts shown in either that episode or the Young Hercules movie were present in the original myth- not even Iolaus.
