  • Zen Noir is a drama written and directed by Marc Rosenbush and released in 2004. A homage to the classic film noir detective films of the 1940s, Zen Noir focuses on a mysterious private investigator known only as "The Detective" (Duane Sharp). This surgical, logical, brilliant man is reeling from the recent death of his wife, and has begun to drink himself to death. His self-pity is interrupted when he is asked to solve a murder that recently took place in a community of Zen Buddhists. The Detective travels to the remote temple, but soon finds that he will have to move beyond western logic and linear thought patterns if he wants to uncover the truth. The Master (Kim Chan) is an enigmatic old man who regularly produces oranges seemingly out of thin air and answers The Detective's questions in riddles. His disciples also present many challenges for The Detective, such as their unfamiliarity with the concept of linear time. Zen Noir is a fascinating and unusual film that fans of mysteries will love.moreless
