A&E Extends Bates Motel's Stay With a Season 2 Renewal

Norman Bates has enjoyed his time at Bates Motel so much, he's decided to stay another year. A&E has renewed the psychological drama for a second season, with the announcement coming just three episodes into the show's run, and conveniently on the day that the fourth episode is scheduled to air (10pm! A&E! Tonight!). Season 2 will run for 10 episodes and premiere in 2014.

The Psycho prequel drama stars Freddie Highmore as a young Norman Bates and Vera Farmiga as his mother, Norma Bates. Lost's Carlton Cuse and Friday Night Lights' Kerry Ehrin are the brains behind the series. Though the audience for Bates Motel has dropped since the show debuted to 4.5 million viewers (across multiple airings), it set A&E records and is still looking good for the network.

Early reviews have been mild to positive, with a general consensus that the show has the potential to be pretty good once it really finds its footing (check out Noel's most recent review). I liked most of the pilot and some of the subsequent episodes, but didn't find the show strong enough to crack my regular watch list. Maybe a lazy Sunday marathon is in store. What do you think?

The shows a 10, but 10 episodes a season is NOT enough. It's the one show I watch the clock for.

i hate it when reviewers wanna put shows down....its just a tv show watch it and be happy and stop worrying about so much, you spend so much time critiqing it you dont really enjoy the program. Bates motel is a really good show, it has the quality of a show on showtime, Starz and HBO

I am hooked on this show and lots due to the amazing acting of Norma, Norman and Dylan. I was questioning, as were many who commented, on how Dylan would play out, but really like how his character is progressing in his relationship with Norman. Yep, the Northwest has sleepy little towns, with little going on except... (wink-wink) And law enforcement good ol' boys who really do cover up the truth.

I like it. I don't love it (yet), but I like it. I especially like how we all know the original Psycho movie but this takes place in modern day, with the kid Bates using an iPhone and the whole shebang.

I think the show is utterly fantastic, and i can not wait to get home from work today and watch last nights fourth episode!

Ah, but plot-, story-, setting- and atmosphere-wise it got it's footing latest 30 minutes into the pilot episode even. Quiet a feat, not even Breaking Bad or Dexter pulled that off, that early.
