American Horror Story's Season 3 Is Getting Witchy

By Tim Surette

Over the weekend at the American Horror Story panel at Paleyfest in Los Angeles, series creator Ryan Murphy let loose on top-secret details of the drama's upcoming third season. After moving into a haunted house and sexing up gimp suits in Season 1 and time-traveling back to the '60s and partying with some aliens, Nazi doctors, and the Angel of Death in Season 2 (American Horror Story: Asylum), Murphy revealed that Season 3 will be...

American Horror Story: Coven. As in witches. Murphy did not reveal the time period Season 3 will be set in.

Despite what sounds like more focused subject matter, Murphy says Season 3 will be "about a lot of things," according to E! Online. Filming will also benefit from some on-location inspiration, as the show will shoot in New Orleans at some scary places. Cast members already announced to return for Season 3 are Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Frances Conroy, Sarah Paulson, and Taissa Farmiga, and Kathy Bates has been confirmed as a new addition.

I still love the "new season, new place" thing AHS is doing and I think the witches theme will be outstanding. You can bet this won't be no Charmed (not that there's anything wrong with Charmed). Murphy has all sorts of plans for Bates and Lange to go warted-nose-to-warted-nose, and the thought of Lily Rabe as a witch has me giddy with excitement. Though of course the big question is, How many mind-altering substances will we need to ingest for the season to make sense?

Doesn't matter what the season is about, aslong as Lily Rabe is in it, she's an amazing actress! Though, I am excited over the new premises of witches. I should think it's around the middle-ages they're planning to show-case the new season. :)

Season 2 was more Sci-Fi tbh so I hope they "horror"-it up in s3. :)

Considering that anyone who dabbles in magic on tv shows are called "witches" and shit, I hope we get to see some hardcore chaos magicians in 'AHS:Coven'.

yay for Bates and Rabe but I was sort of hoping they'd go all voodoo with it. I knew they have a cast in mind and that they weren't going to go afro with it, but I don't want that wican nonsense they did in TB praying to some goddess of nature. I want goats running around with their heads half off and shit. Not that white people can't get their freak on but I wanted some old school, burn down the plantation, baby in the fire, horse-blood drinking, child raping, menstrual blood drinking, demon summoning mayhem.

Witchcraft in New Orleans is ripe for somebody to do something badass with, Don't pussy it up, Murphy, and bring in gay aliens. Immaculate demon conceptions - yes. Alien conception - no.

unfortunately I couldn't watch season 2 because old timey asylums are simply too hard to even think about for me. I empathize with the poor people who were trapped and abused so horribly because that could have been me. thankfully this season will not be in an asylum and I missed the show so much so here's a big yay: YAY!

I loved AHS first two seasons, but I'm a little leary about this third season. I am also a witch (like many of you who have left comments), and I'm just concerned about what hollywood will portray for us. Is it going to cross the line into our religion of Wicca? If so, I'm begging Ryan Murphy to have actual Wiccans on set to guide him in what is valid, and what isn't. Yes, I hated Charmed, as do most Wiccans, BUT, if Ryan Murphy will make this into a "fantasy witchcraft", I can understand using Hollywood theatrics for thrills and whatnot. Just dont trample our religion in the meantime. :)

I think it is time we, the viewers, start our own kickstarter project to raise some money to fund Price for reviewing this upcoming season.. the previous one already went sour as he left before the season ended, we cannot let this one go with the same fate..

  • NeeUyank Aug 21, 2013

wow, I just realized that Price is back -actually has been back for the last two months but because I do not watch Teen Wolf, it never occurred to me-, now this is a huge "yay":) now we can totally cancel that kickstarter plan, he WILL be recapping AHS's upcoming season:)

I am still hoping somewhere down the line these seemingly unrelated seasons tie together somehow, even loosely. Ok maybe I just want to know what happened to the Antichrist baby from Season 1.

  • Swift79b Mar 21, 2013

...yes, I also want to know what happened to the AntiChrist baby from Season 1! LOL
And, although I love this series, I also don't see how the different seasons tie together - not that they have to.
I think there were too many plots and subplots on last season so I hope next season will be much in pair with the first season - which had a good pace and made a little more sense in the end... (I mean, the alien stuff on season 2? Not my favourite at all.)

  • CharmedOneP391 Mar 19, 2013

I mean not that Charmed was all bad, but I like my American Horror Story a little bit more on the dark side. Although It'd be nice if there are both good witches and evil witches in Season 3, because if they're just evil, then the power balance will be on witchy overload. I hate when that happens

  • CharmedOneP391 Mar 19, 2013

PS: I also hope Zachary Quinto returns.

  • NasiaVoulieri Mar 19, 2013

I need Zachary back as well! Hehehe!! Love him! Although I loved AHS's first season, I did love the second one but not quite that much. I found it to be a bit all over the place. But you had me at "coven" so I think I'm going to like it! ;-)
