CBS Dumps Partners After Six (It's Only Been Six?) Episodes

Nov 16, 2012

The man who presses the Cancellation Button at CBS finally returned from vacation today and immediately got to work. CBS has canceled its gay-straight buddy comedy Partners, the low-rated and not-liked new sitcom from the creators of Will & Grace. By CBS's high standards for comedies, this show has been dead for a long time, but the network let it last six episodes probably out of respect for its creators. Or because it doesn't have much waiting in the wings. Or because someone just wasn't paying attention.

Partners was sandwiched between How I Met Your Mother and 2 Broke Girls on Monday nights, and was a stain on CBS's otherwise solid evening. The most recent episode pulled in a 1.8 rating in the adult demo, which is decent if your business card says anything but CBS; compared to HIMYM (3.0) and 2 Broke Girls (3.2), it's crap. And with The Big Bang Theory hitting a series high last night with 17.4 million viewers (Monday's Partners drew 5.48 million viewers), Partners is definitely the disappointing son who never got his act together and needed to be kicked out of the house.

Partners has been pulled immediately, never to be seen again (except maybe on a Saturday night down sometime the road). In the meantime, CBS will air comedy repeats in the 8:30pm Monday slot.

On the plus side, the talented Michael Urie, who was relegated to a gay stereotype on the show, now has a clear schedule. Where would you like to see him end up? If he isn't the centerpiece of one of Person of Interest's cases this season, I'll be piping mad!

This show was absolutely HILARIOUS! I loved it, thought it was brilliant and loved the entire cast! What the hell is wrong with whoever pulled this one out to play reruns!?!?!?!?!?!? Bring it back!!!!!! Give up the rest of the season we know you already shot at least!

I do watch HIMYM but i still enjoyed Partners way more.

Damn dude, took 'em long enough. I suspect everybody had this turkey of a show on their Dead Pool lists. Airing reruns though is just as stupid, you paid for new content so if you have nothing new to replace it with you might as well use what you paid for.

Not necessarily. See, the networks don't care if we actually enjoy the shows they air--all they're concerned with are the number of viewers who will be watching their ads.
You and I see ads as something we'll suffer through if we enjoy a show enough; networks see shows as a cost they have to eat in order to get us to watch their ads.
If they feel they can get more viewers by running reruns of BBT or HIMYM instead, that's what they're going to do. I do hope they'll at least throw the remaining episodes of Partners on their website or make them available on Hulu or something though. I actually enjoyed the show, with the exception of Brandon Routh. They clearly didn't know what to do with his character, and I think they show would have worked a lot better with Louis being a single guy whose only real long-term relationship was his friendship with Joe. Or maybe if they'd done a better job with Wyatt in terms of writing and/or casting. Oh well, too late now. :(

Not if reruns would do (much) better in the ratings.

Tim, whilst I await this week's episode review of the upcoming walking dead and the Maury Pauovich phone call I (acs178) mentioned to you on twitter. Can you please do a review on Grimm, or which ever of the writer's does Grimm, episode was extremely annoying. People just kept getting hurt because of all the unnecessary secrets.

I loved Partners, This show and 2 Broke Girls always make me laugh, whereas Modern Family, Community, New Girl, Mindy Project, Happy Endings can't even get a chuckle out of me. If those dull shows are considered funny, then I think I'll stick to dramas.

Seriously??? I mean I kinda dvr watched this show too, but to say Modern Family and Community don't make you laugh. Yikes my friend, yikes.

    You, sir/madam, have terrible taste...

  • meee223 Nov 19, 2012

Sorry, but seriously, I HAVE watched those shows several times. No laughs.

  • saxyroro Nov 17, 2012

I didn't put this in my dead pool for respect to former Ugly Betty costar Michael Urie. Damn it.

  • tnetennba Nov 17, 2012

    Cool. I need some points.

  • ironman166 Nov 17, 2012

Just Do it! it's about time someone realized how bad this show was. Six episodes was too much.

  • MightyMad Nov 17, 2012

Now, that one, I saw coming...

Seriously, I can't believe it got green-light in the first place.
