... CBS has renewed its slate of script-free Sunday-night shows, handing out new season orders to both Undercover Boss and The Amazing Race. On a 1-10 scale of things that are surprising, this news doesn't even register. [TV Guide]

... Starbuck has landed! Katee Sackhoff has signed on for a new pilot on A&E; titled Longmire, based on the Walt Longmire Mysteries novels. Sackhoff will play a Wyoming deputy under recently divorced and very eligible sheriff Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor); together they'll solve crimes and deal with personal issues. Sackhoff previously expressed interest in the female lead on FX's comic-book-adaptation pilot Powers, but you can pretty much throw that out the window now. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Master documentary-maker Ken Burns has chosen the subject for his next zooming-and-panning miniseries. Burnsy will tackle the Vietnam War with Vietnam, which is scheduled to debut on PBS in 2016. [Time]

... Veteran actor Alan Alda (M*A*S*H*) is joining Showtime's The Big C for a guest appearance. He'll play an oncologist. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Discovery Channel is sticking with tough guys for its reality programming, and has ordered two burly new shows to series. Moonshiners will follow hooch-distillers in the backwoods of Appalachia as they make batch upon batch of illegal booze. There's also Mountain Men of Alaska, which is aptly titled so I won't go into it. [EW]

... The always awesome Alton Brown has extended his contract with The Food Network, meaning he'll be back for Iron Chef America, The Next Iron Chef, and The Next Food Network Star. He'll also produce a trio of Good Eats episodes geared around the gut-busting gluttony of Thanksgiving. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Producer John Wells (Southland, ER) is resurrecting his project Gimme Shelter—which was originally set up at CBS—at TNT, the same network that threw Southland a lifeline after NBC canceled it. Gimme Shelter is a medical drama about a team that travels across the country helping the less fortunate. [Deadline Hollywood]

... 30 Rock has no problem nabbing high-profile guest stars, but it might have landed its biggest yet. Tom Hanks revealed on Twitter that he's going to guest-star on the NBC comedy, because what Tom Hanks wants, Tom Hanks gets. [Tom Hanks' Twitter]

The Amazing Race is the only reality show worth watching! I don't even really watch it for the people, I watch it for the world traveling.

I love Katee Sackhoff so I'll definitely check out Longmire. Too bad she's not joining 17th Precinct though, that would have been awesome.
