Do These Four New Arrested Development Clips Get You Excited for the Show's Return? (VIDEO)

Guys, I really don't know what to think of this Arrested Development revival. On one hand, hey, more Arrested Development! On the other, bigger hand that won't get out of my face, there's a deep fear lingering inside me that it just won't be the same. Netflix did not screen episodes widely for critics, which is usually a very bad sign; but then again, Netflix doesn't play by regular rules so who knows why the didn't give us an advanced look? Still, most of the promotion for the series has been a series of posters calling back on old jokes, real-life Bluth banana stands, and one trailer that eased most fears. Instead of spending its own marketing money, Netflix seems more than content to just let the internet promote the hell out of the show all by itself, which it is doing to a near-nauseating degree.

Now, with just a day and a half until the Bluths return (all the episodes will be available on Sunday), Netflix has released these four snippets from the new season. However, they're out of context and they aren't really the best way to show off Arrested Development's trademark layered humor. Though I guess that forces the question, is there really a way to properly promote a show like this?

None of those made me LOL or ROFL or LMAO, but Arrested Development really can't be contained to 10-second clips. What did you think?

The first two episodes were ok, not bad but not great either, but I thought it got better around episodes 3 and 4.

I have high hopes. But I also had high hopes when Futurama came back too. And Futurama came back a pale imitation of itself.

    Still... Fingers crossed

I'm hoping for the best, I hope I like these new episodes. I just hope they don't recycle old jokes and end up stale. But I hope for the best :D

Neutral, those were smirks but not laughs.

Whether or not it will live up to its older seasons is one thing, but I can't see it ending up being bad. After all, this new season is being done by the same group of people that brought us those first three seasons, unlike a certain other show that turned to crap after its showrunner and a few key writers left in its 4th season (*cough*Community*cough*), it's clear from interviews that Hurwitz does have a plan in place for the series' return (not just for this season, but a three-part plan which includes this season and a movie), plus, while it's hard to really appreciate/fully understand the jokes in these videos and the trailer, they are entertaining overall, and seem to capture the essence of the show's older season. Of course, it's not impossible that it will turn into trash despite all this, but I'm pretty confident I'll at least enjoy the season to some extent whenever I end up watching it (I want to rewatch the first 3 seasons first, and don't know when I'll be doing that).

One of the best Comedies on TV is coming back, how is it possible not to be excited?

  • Wiseguy70005 May 25, 2013

People thinking this is one of the best comedies is the reason comedy doesn't exist on TV anymore.

no reason to be negative Tim. It was us fans who brought it back to life, it is us fans who will appreciate every single second of it. Why would I even begin trying to compare it, haven't we learned from Anger Management and 2.5 Men what happens if you compare? The writing of AD was brilliant, unmatched in my opinion, he Hurwitz had 4 Seasons in mind when he started it and has now 15 episode for 30 minutes to let it all out. It will be brilliant because Hurwitz is brilliant.

Not that this is anyone's fault, but this time of year sucks!! There's only three new articles since I had my coffee yesterday morning and two of them are about THIS show!

    I'M SOOOOOO BORED!!

Tim, aren't we being a bit negative, I mean, it is very likely that the show won't be as good as it was in its original run, but acting like it it is awful before even watching is only going to lead to you being disappointed about the new episodes. I plan to watch with an open mind, and to try my best not to compare it too much to the original seasons. Hopefully it will be just as enjoyable in this new format.

"I mean, it is very likely that the show won't be as good as it was in its original run, but acting like it it is awful before even watching is only going to lead to you being disappointed about the new episodes."

I've actually always had the opposite experience. Whenever I go into a show thinking negatively and with low expectations, I tend to be "pleasantly surprised" if it's even decent, so I end up feeling better about it. It's when I go in with high expectations that I'll likely be disappointed.

    That is true.
