ER upgraded from critical to fair

Don't pull the plug on ER just yet. The popular program, which is currently in its 14th season, just got some good news. Variety is saying that NBC is in talks to keep the medical drama alive for one more year.

The show was thought to be on its last legs and was expected to end its long run this season, but in light of the writers strike, that may all change. The storied series, which has netted a record 120 Emmy nominations in its run, will likely now get the proper farewell season that it has earned.

ER is expected to shoot about six more episodes for this season, and, in an unusual turn, immediately film four more episodes for next season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The trade publication also says the show has cast two new characters for the remainder of this season and possibly to carry over into next. The Sopranos' Aida Turturro will play a survivor of a car accident, and David Lyons will play a new doctor who just happens to be devastatingly handsome.

NBC has yet to make an official announcement on ER's fate. For more on ER, read's previous coverage.

I love ER...i've seen every episode. I originally started watching on TNT and since then I've been hooked. I will agree it isn't as good as the early days but for the farewell I hope they figure a way to bring back all the old cast and especially Dr. Carter (Noah Wyle) and maybe even Doug and Carol and Elizabeth (George Clooney, Julianna Margulies, and Alex Kingston)...they all made the show great and should be in the finally and even annoying old Dr. Weaver should be there.......It is a sad day when ER leaves but at least i'll have House

i cant see this happening, i cant take abby and luka gone before the show its over, im just not happy about it...if the show has to end it has to end.. .but dont just kill the characters that made this shot what it is, like they were fictional people!!!

I love watching ER - but this seasoan and the prior season weren't too great. However, a show that has run for 14 years deserves a proper farewell. I just hope that they make a truly fantastic final season - one that brings all the greatness of ER back.

I actually just recently started watching ER, but I fell in love with it. I just hope in season 15 they bring back Ray/Shane b/c the relationship b/t him and Neela is what hooked me. They need to right what they wronged at last season's end. I love this show!!!

I been watching ER since it came on in 94 and I hope it doesn't end! I look forward to watching this show every week. I even TiVo it on TNT everyday its on so I can watch the old ones. I really hope it doesn't end this season. Case that would be a bad way to go out! And if they end the show they should end it right with a full final season not one that was cut in half by a stupid strike!
