Fox Renews Four: The Following, New Girl, The Mindy Project, and Raising Hope

Adorable, quirky women with dating problems and adorable women with their eyes scooped out in grisly murders, good news! Aside from your relationship suicides and bloody murders, you're going to be just fine next year. Fox has announced early pickups for four of its series, asking for new seasons of comedies New Girl, The Mindy Project, and Raising Hope, and new drama The Following.

The renewals for New Girl and The Following aren't much of a surprise, as both shows have been solid for Fox. Though its numbers are down from last season, New Girl (which is currently in Season 2) does well with the ladies, ranking as the number-one comedy for women aged 18-34 (lucky for Schmidt). The Following has emerged as a rare midseason success this season, ranking as the number-two network drama once DVR numbers are factored in. Its second season will almost certainly be for 15 episodes, as star Kevin Bacon has stipulated a limit in his contract to make sure he has time for other projects.

More servings of Raising Hope and The Mindy Project were not as certain, but Fox appears to be happy enough with its Tuesday comedy block (or maybe not happy with what it has in development?). Raising Hope will enter its fourth season, while Mindy will be back for Season 2. This will keep Fox's Tuesdays largely intact; the network can choose just one more comedy from the eight comedy pilots it has in development, plus a few more as midseason insurance. Based on talent alone, I'd think Andy Samberg's cop comedy has the best shot at making it to series, but tonally, the Gavin & Stacey remake Friends and Family starring Jason Ritter and Alexis Bliedel would fit well alongside Mindy and Zooey.

Fox canceled Ben and Kate earlier this year, and still has decisions to make about Touch, the upcoming midseason comedy The Goodwin Games, and Glee. The first two are almost certainly goners, and a Glee renewal is just a formality as long as it still sells songs on iTunes.

So happy for Raising Hope! It's probably the most underrated network sitcom right now, and so I was worried that it would get canceled just because everyone forgets about it. But last week's amazing episodes just proves that it needs another season.

It is a gem of a show. I just wonder what Garcia leaving means for it's creative future.

happy about the following but upset about ben and kate .. wish fox give it a second chance , fair ending or keep it as a summer show alongside The Goodwin Games which will air May 20th

I have to admit.. Raising Hope's second season was not very good and i almost gave it up.. but this season!! oh my god.. brilliant. the episode where all the cast from my name is earl is reunited is one of my favorites!! i think the way for raising hope is to keep making special episodes where the make fun about other shows and movies.. they're very good at it

I have to disagree about season 2. Ever since Jimmy's Fake Girlfriend (an episode that should be defined as a perfect episode), Raising Hope has hit it out of the park. Yes, season 3 has been amazing. Arbor Daze and Making the Band were two of the best episodes I've ever. seen from a sitcom in a very long time. Glad you decided to keep watching.

horrible horrible horrible...only Raising Hope is decent.
FOX is such a bad network these days...(Ben & Kate was their only decent show)

Yay, so happy Mindy Project was renewed! And New Girl. They both took a few episodes for me to fully appreciate, but now I'm really enjoying both. Also, side note, recently read Mindy Kaling's book for book group and it was great!

I'm so happy Mindy will be back. I like that show more than New Girl.

I'm getting tired of Raising Hope so I watch it when I'm bored.

Maybe I'll watch The Following since it was renewed. I know it's 'entertainingly bad' but I'm slightly curious about the show.

I gave up Raising Hope a long time ago. The first season was OK, but it was pretty bad when I stopped watching. I have only seen a few episodes of New Girl. Not my cup of tea. The following is somewhat entertaining, but only by being laughably dumb. That actually makes it watchable, but I wonder for how much longer. I don't think I will watch a second season. Not sure if I will finish the first.
