Denis Leary Returns to FX With New Comedy Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll

Not keen on letting ABC have a monopoly on terribly annoying punctuation in show titles, FX has ordered 10 episodes of Denis Leary's new comedy Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll. Created by and starring Leary, the series follows a washed up former rock star who desperately wants to be rich and famous, but partied a bit too hard, drank a bit too much, and slept with one too many of the wrong gals during the band's heyday. In a new bid for attention, he's attempting to get the band back together 25 years after he single-handedly flushed it down the toilet like it was cocaine during a raid.

Leary, who also co-created and starred in FX's long-running drama Rescue Me, plays Johnny Rock, the washed up former frontman of the popular '90s band The Heathens. John Corbett plays Flash, the band's guitarist and Johnny's former BFF. The series also stars Elizabeth Gillies, Elaine Hendrix, and Bobby Kelly. Look for it to debut on FX in 2015.

Leary is also the co-creator of USA's raunchy comedy, Sirens, which was recently renewed for Season 2.

Will you watch Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll?

    Gawd that sounds so 80's.

Great news. I'm actually marathoning Rescue Me for the first time at the moment and it's great and possibly the show with the best ever claim to be called a 'dramedy' (or 'comma' as preferred by moi).

Anything with John Corbett is good news!!!!

Denis Leary is funny but he is a one trick pony. I just hope this has something new and not rehash of jokes from Rescue me. I am excited to see John Corbett back on TV.

Is he highlighting his magic dick again?

Rescue Me is one of the all time great shows. Thus anything by Leary deserves a chance.

I'll probably check it out but "Johnny Rock" is just a horrible idea for a character name.

Andrea Roth who played Tommy Gavin's wife on 'Rescue Me' is currently playing a character in the new season of DirectTV's 'Rogue' (which, by the way is so far really good added Cole Hauser to the cast as well) -- in an early episode she had sex with her superior who asked her, "Who were you with last?" Her response, 'Your not going to believe this, a New York City firefighter.' His quiet retort, 'I can't possibly live up to that?' To which she responded, 'You're right, you can't.' Loved the wink to Leary.

I agree Rogue is an under-rated show. Rescue me was very funny for the first few seasons too.

I laughed when Andrea Roth's 'Marlene' said that. Thandie Newton is so damn good on that show and there are a lot of good actors in it and as far as summer cop shows go its better than most and there is no word on the street about it at all. Story so far this season has been very good. Cole Hauser always makes a good addition to the cast. My favorite 'meta' on that show is that the actor Ian Tracey who played Grace's partner 'Mitch' last season (and who has been on everything), the actor who plays his son, that is dating Grace's daughter, is Kennan Tracey, Ian Tracey's son.

I hadn't heard about Sirens' renewal before now. That's good news.
