FX Renews Wilfred, Louie, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

If you enjoy laughing at things that are genuinely funny, FX has good news for you. The network used its Television Critics Association press tour presentation on Saturday to announce renewals for three of its comedies: the self-deprecating middle-aged freak-out Louie, the dog-is-man's-best-friend-but-also-his-worst-enemy Wilfred, and the Seinfeld-except-on-crack It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia will be back next year.

Wilfred and Louie each received new orders for 13-episode seasons (a second for Wilfred and a third for Louie). But FX revealed an even higher level of commitment to It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which was handed an additional TWO seasons. With the multiple-season order, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia will run for at least nine seasons—Season 7 premieres on September 15—making it the longest-running live-action comedy on basic cable... ever. Yes, longer even than The Bill Engvall Show. (I'm guessing South Park takes the crown for longest-running basic cable comedy.)

In my mind, this trio of renewals earns FX the title of "best network for comedy," on cable or otherwise. With It's Always Sunny..., Wilfred, Louie, The League, and Archer on its roster for at least another year, FX has surpassed NBC as the king of funny as far as quality is concerned.

If you watch only one network for comedy, which network would you choose? Sign me up for FX.

Love "Sunny", glad it's coming back.

FX is great! Sunny, Wilfred, Louie are all amazing comedies. If you don't get them there are always the "fair-weather" comedies like 2 and a half men ugghhhh lol...

NBC is meh...Community is awesome, 30 Rock is good, but was better earlier on...FX won the crown for best comedy channel when it picked up It's Always Sunny in Philly for season 1 lol.

Maybe AMC can take notes from FX. Don't try and slash the budget of your front runner shows. Love me some Louie! It makes me feel uncomfortable which is a requirement with any show I watch.

FX and AMC are the only networks you need to watch.

I liked the first half of Louie season 1 - but episodes like the other week with Pamela are just straight depressing with zero laughs. I'm thinking about ignoring this show and just sticking to his standup which IS funny.

That was kind of the idea of the whole thing. Louie is a black comedy.
