Here Are Some Game of Thrones Goodies to Jog Your Memory Before the Start of Season 3 (Plus: See Two Clips from the Premiere!)

Cue up the Jock Jams: ARE YOU READY FOR THIS? And by "this," I mean Game of Thrones Season 3, of course, as it finally finally finally begins this Sunday. We've ogled the photos. We've drooled over the trailers. We've hounded the cast and crew for intel. And now it's here! Like, so close that the video above is an actual honest-to-God clip from the premiere, "Valar Dohaeris"! And here's another one... with DRAGONS!

Unfortunately, if we're being honest, I am not ready. I mean, I'm ready, but it's been like nine months since we last visited the seven kingdoms and the details of what happened last season are feeling a little bit hazy, you know?

If you, too, are feeling the need for a GoT refresher, obviously the smart thing to do would be to just spend this weekend re-watching the first two seasons to ensure that you're properly prepared—what's a measly twenty hours, right? But just in case you have a life and need a quicker fix, I've collected a few links (and other random goodies) you might find helpful, including all of our past episode reviews.

To wit:

HBO has assembled an excellent "viewer's guide."

The link above goes directly to a helpful yet blissfully brief Season 2 "catch-up" page, but if you start clicking around, you'll also find detailed (and interactive!) maps and house breakdowns, too.

Meanwhile, our dedicated Game of Thrones show page has trivia, cast and crew info, fan reviews, and viewing links for each episode.

And we're always looking for more, so feel free to contribute

Of course, if you're completely up-to-date and just looking to kill time until Sunday, there's plenty of fun to be had.

For example, you can design your own sigil at jointherealm.com. (Here's ours!) Or you can just watch promos and mash-up videos on YouTube. We've collected several in the clickable image below:

And finally, if you *are* settling in for a marathon and looking for some commentary, here are all of our episodic reviews from Seasons 1 and 2:

Now go forth! Prepare! Quiz each other in the comments! And then meet us back here on Sunday to talk about the Season 3 premiere—we'll post our review of the episode as soon as it ends on the East Coast.

Simply cannot wait! In the novels i'm up to book 6 (ADWD part1) but the sheer accuracy and achievements of the show has me re-living all the moments I remember from the pages of the earlier books with sheer delight.

I know it's gonna be epic but I am getting a vibe that the promotion and interviews and all this hype is just too much.. Or maybe it just frustrates me that the season premier is frakin still not here :D

I'm really looking forward to this. The theme song is already playing in my head.

"I mean Game of Thrones Season 3, of course, as it finally finally finally begins this Sunday." Wow, 9 months does seem like a long wait, and yet, only a fraction of the longing and discomfort suffered by Martin fans waiting for the next novel in the series to be published.

  • safibwana Mar 29, 2013

That was confusing to read. When I read "Martin fans" it translated to "fans of the Fox sitcom Martin". Then I wondered what kind of series of books Martin Lawrence would be writing.

There's something very weird that's been going on for quite some time, and it's been increasing. I get notifications that someone voted up my comment, then I go there and the comment is blank. When it happened only occasionally, I just assumed they changed their minds, but now it happens about half the time. So, is it:
    (1) The thumbs-up button is broken.
    (2) The notification system is broken.
    (3) My civility has declined to such an extent that I post such incendiary comments fully half of the people who "thumbs up" them, read something else I posted, and then un-do the "thumbs up" upon discovering I'm an asshole.
It's a mystery. Maybe the person who "thumbs upped" the above comment will read this and say that they undid it for some reason, or that they never did it in the first place, or that they never undid it. Maybe other frequent commenters will respond saying the same thing is happening to them. Maybe one of these things will help solve the mystery. I don't always click on notifications unless they are replies, but lately I have been tired and grumpy and have no memory of comenting on some articles, so I click just to find out "oh dear god, what the hell did I write this time?"

  • tnetennba Mar 30, 2013

It happens to me all the time. Also when I come here and see that I have 9 notifications (that I didn't have an hour earlier), it can be that someone has just thumbed up a comment I made yesterday. The notification system is messed up in many different ways. I don't think it has ever really worked, but I think something happened recently that made it worse.

  • emmiegirl Mar 29, 2013

Ditto; I've received notifications about votes and yet the comments are without thumbs. It's 19:32 GMT and there are no thumbs on the entire comment thread.

  • Sam20 Mar 29, 2013

I'm the one who voted up your Martin sitcom comment, and I just did it again. I'm not sure what the deal is, I certainly didn't undo it. My guess is something is fucked with the thumbs-up button.

  • tnetennba Mar 30, 2013

Is it even possible to undo? Before we got the notification system, you could click once to increase the count, and click again to decrease it. Now the first count increases it, and the second does nothing. But if you try again the next day, I think it will at least appear to increase again.

  • LadyJay03 Mar 29, 2013

I think something wonky is going on with their system. Mine keeps telling me about new notifications, but they are from months ago.

  • tnetennba Mar 30, 2013

    @safibwana: "but will it stay?"

Apparently not. If you're referring to LadyJay03's comment here, it doesn't have any thumbs up.

  • safibwana Mar 29, 2013

Ha! You voted it up, and there is no little "1". Now I have voted yours up, and there _appears_ to be a little "1", but will it stay?

  • Sam20 Mar 29, 2013

The end of The Walking Dead. The beginning of Game of Thrones. Sunday is going to be one hell of a night!

  • Sheikia Mar 29, 2013

Why on earth would AMC put the season finale of the Walking Dead on at the same time as the season premiere of Game of Thrones?

  • akyag Mar 30, 2013

Those of us who watch it after it releases on internet don't simply care.. and I bet there are lots of us !!! :P

  • emmiegirl Mar 29, 2013

Don't you mean the reverse? HBO wants AMC to know that their zombies are no match for dragons. Winter is coming, AMC!

  • dama82 Mar 29, 2013

this sunday, nothing else matters. or maybe monday since hbo decided to air it on mondays in netherlands :(, helluva april fools day it's gonna be ^^
