It's ladies' night at the Academy of Country Music awards
The Academy of Country Music Awards ceremony was held in Las Vegas last night, and it was a good night for the ladies. Former American Idol winner Carrie Underwood was the big winner of the evening, taking home the coveted Entertainer of the Year award.
The Entertainer of the Year award had gone to a male for nearly a decade, with the Dixie Chicks being the last female artists to win the award in 2000. Underwood also won female entertainer of the year.
"It is my belief that country music makes the world a better place, and I'm so glad to be a part of country music," Underwood said. "I feel like I just won American Idol all over again."
Taylor Swift grabbed the night's other big award, taking home Album of the Year honors for Fearless. The 19-year old has bucked the trend of slumping music sales, with her past two albums selling more than three million copies each.
Julianne Hough, known to most as one of Dancing with the Stars' pros, won the fan-voted best new artist award. Elsewhere, Brad Paisley, Sugarland, Trace Adkins, and Jamey Johnson also won high honors.
