Jesse L. Martin is out of Order

When a show has been on for as long as Law & Order has, turnover is not only expected, it's guaranteed. Today, word broke that another actor has decided to leave the long-running show, but this time it isn't a simple journeyman using Law & Order as a springboard--it's an actor who has been on the show for nearly a decade.

Jesse L. Martin, who plays Detective Ed Green, is leaving the show after nine years, says The Hollywood Reporter. Martin will reportedly film one more episode of the show and see his character written off, before pursuing other projects--including playing Marvin Gaye in the upcoming feature biopic of the legendary singer.

With Martin out, Law & Order producers are said to be "in final negotiations" with K-Ville's Anthony Anderson to fill the void. Anderson's proposed character would be partnered up with Jeremy Sisto's Detective Cyrus Lupo, who joined the series this year.

The potential casting of the talented Anderson, while good for Law & Order, does not bode well for K-Ville. In fact, it pretty much guarantees that the post-Katrina New Orleans-based cop drama won't be back for a second season. Fox has yet to officially cancel the show.

Law & Order is in its 18th season and airs on Wednesday nights on NBC, with the last of its prestrike-produced episodes airing next week. The drama will return with new episodes April 23. For more on the program, check out TV.com's previous coverage.

Anderson didn't get it done in those last few episodes, but I guess we're stuck with him. I would like to see Cutter's character developed a little bit - he definitely breathed new life into the show.

I know I'll miss Det Green. He's my favorite after Lennie Briscoe. I feel the same way - that he was a link to the past, and now that he'll be gone, I just don't know. I didn't like Anderson's character in SVU, so I'm glad it's not the same charcter.

L&O; finally got the combination right with Green &

Sisto. I did like Anderson on SVU, so maybe I will get use to him on L&O.; we'll see.

I will really miss Martin. I don't think Anthony Anderson is a good fit for the show. They should look to more action orientated actors like Roger R. Cross (Curtis Manning of 24),Carlos Benard (Tony Almeida of 24) ,or Michael Imperioli as Det Nick Falco or John Leguizamo who was excellent in Spike TV's Kill Point as Mr Wolf. There are a lot of excellent action stars out there that could fill in Martin's shoes and keep this show fresh for another 9 seasons. Either way I'll continue to be a fan. Although I think the show has become a little bit tame and needs more hard hitting action drama. I miss the Two hour episodes or crossover shows with the cast of other shows making appearances.

yeah, if it wasn't for S. Epatha Merkerson and Sam Waterston, I'd quit watching after Jesse leaves. There's no one else I like on L&O; anymore, it started going downhill with the new actors once Dennis Farina left, I had just gotten used to him taking over Briscoe's spot.

I will certainly miss Jesse Martin. He is one of my favourite characters and I enjoyed his relationship with Sisto. It made the show really enjoyable to watch and I shall miss that rapore that they had. Maybe they will have to bring him back.

Urgh. I hate the way Sisto's character is being written. He tries too hard to be friendly, and the dog thing was cheesy. Can't we get Chris Noth's Logan back? Speaking of Logan, I miss the magic that Logan and Briscoe had.

Man, this sucks! While I understand wanting to move on after that much time, the show won't be the same without him. I have no idea who Anthony Anderson is, but I really like the cast they have this season. It's the first season where I've watched every episode, instead of just catching it when I could. I'll definitely miss seeing him on the show every week.

No way! I don't like Anderson. He's too much of a comedian for a serious role like L&O.; I like Sisto though. I hope he is around as long as Martin was.
