King is a Talisman for TNT

The '80s are back and scarier than ever.

The 1984 best seller The Talisman, a collaboration between horror writers Stephen King and Peter Straub, will come to TNT courtesy of Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks TV. Spielberg will executive produce with partners Kathleen Kennedy and Ehren Kruger.

Talisman will be a six-hour miniseries premiering in the summer of 2008. TNT also aired the 2004 King miniseries Salem's Lot and this year's Nightmares and Dreamscapes. Spielberg produced the 2005 miniseries Into the West for the network.

The Talisman told the story of young Jack Sawyer, a boy who can "flip" into a parallel universe called The Territories. There, he befriends a werewolf and searches for a Talisman that can save his mother's life and prevent a global catastrophe. A sequel, Black House, was published in 2001.

A Talisman film has been planned since the release of the book. In 1985, paperback editions of the novel read "Soon to be a major motion picture," and at one point, Michael J. Fox was attached to star.

The same year The Talisman was first published, Steven Spielberg directed the film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and produced the Joe Dante-directed Gremlins. The Jaws director is no stranger to horror, having produced the 1982 film Poltergeist.

Indeed!! This has been a 'long time coming' as we say. Wow, I read this book when I was 14 yrs old and now I am 36! Never say never. This was one of those books that made an everlasting impact such that when I saw the thread, I became very excited at the very prospect of seeing this tremendous story come alive on the movie screen. What a treat at his stage of the game! The book was masterful storytelling so I can only hope that the constriction of the TV set doesn't ruin it for all of us and our vivid imaginations. Can't wait to see...

The Talisman can be treated like a horror, adventure, science fiction, fantasy, or a combination film, and with or without comedy undertones. I wonder how they plan to shoot it.

It's no surprise that Talisman is about a boy who can flip threw parallel universe. From Walsh mythology is tale about a boy who becomes Taliesin, similar to the English "Merlin", a bard with vast worldly knowledge and knows the language of the birds. He had a taste from the cauthron of knowledge in which he then had to run away from into other parallel worlds and transforms to get away from Ceridwen.

What is surprising, is that this is a horror story...

I hope its still got the boy and werewolf thing going on. This tv show sounds right up my ally.
