Merlin Conjures A Fifth Season At Comic-Con

While the cast and crew of most US shows spent their time teasing fans at this year’s Comic-Con (The Waking Dead, we’re particularly looking at you), the creators of BBC One’s hit show Merlin decided to use TV’s biggest convention as a platform to announce some important news: The mythical show has been given a fifth season.

The fourth season of the Arthurian drama doesn’t start in the UK until the autumn, however the BBC has decided its general popularity is enough to warrant the extension. The international success of the show is such that Merlin has been sold to more than 183 countries, including the USA.

The season renewal was revealed this Saturday at San Diego’s annual Comic-Con event. Producers Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy said the extra season allowed more "creative space" and "slow burn" character arcs.

In an interview with last month, Anthony Head confirmed the upcoming fourth season is going to be “darker” and a teaser released by The BBC seems to back this up.

What do you make of the news? Are you ready for more, darker Merlin?
