Misfits Casts Robert Sheehan’s Replacement

Irish actor Robert Sheehan is considered irreplaceable by many Misfits fans; his character Nathan has been the ring-leader of the super-powered ASBO group since the show began. His decision to quit the show earlier this year made his exit and replacement inevitable, however, and today E4 announced his successor: Joe Gilgun (best known as Eli Dingle in Emmerdale) has been cast as new character Rudy.

Rudy will be introduced when the third series--which has been extended from six to eight episodes--airs on E4 later this year. He’s expected to get a “rude awakening” when he forms part of the main ASBO group, alongside returning characters Kelly (Lauren Socha), Simon (Iwan Rheon), Curtis (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett) and Alisha (Antonia Thomas), all of whom will have all-new superpowers.

As well as a new character, the third season will also see the return of superpower trader Seth. Zombies will be “on the loose” too, according to a Channel 4 press release. Robert Sheehan’s character Nathan, meanwhile, will play no on-screen part in the new series. His last scenes will be in an online film, viewable ahead of the third season debut.

What do you make of this news? Are you a Joe Gilgun fan?

This show is bigger than the characters. Hopefully it'll still be as consistantly great.

I will see what it is like, but i do think that Nathan was such a big character that it will be hard to replace him.

I never understand when people say they like a show but will stop watching when a character leaves. If you're only watching for THAT character, then you're not really a fan of the show. Will kind of miss Nathan but i'm willing to give the new character a chance, who knows, he might be great!
