Seatbelts, Everyone! Netflix Is Rebooting The Magic School Bus for 2016

Come on in and don't be shy! Netflix is reviving The Magic School Bus, the long-running Scholastic/PBS series that helped make science cool for kids in the '90s, according to The New York Times.

The streaming service has ordered 26 half-hour episodes of The Magic School Bus 360°, which it plans to launch in 2016.

Unlike the original series, the Netflix reboot will use computer-generated animation. It will also feature a modernized Ms. Frizzle, who will take her class on field trips on an updated bus, and her students will use newer scientific tools in their adventures, including robots. However, there's no word on whether viewers will get to surf on a sine wave, raft a river of lava, or get baked into a pie.

Here's a first look at the concept art for the new show:

Wahoo!

I say just leave that Magic School Bus as a 90's kids classic, but who know what will happen.

I feel like I live-action version starring Zooey Deschanel is imminent.

This is NOT fair. I loved the magic school bus when i was a kid and im not embarrassed to say i still do. They need to put this on tv

i dont want to have tv buy a netflix subscription just to watch this

You don't need a TV to watch Netflix. Any device can use that service at this point..

Netflix takes chances. But it also makes mistakes.

    never heard of it

Yes I loved the magic school bus when I was a kid but I just hope they don't change it too much, and keep it charm. I hate the new animation of fireman Sam and bananas in pyjamas so I really hope thEy don't go down that animated route.

I just wonder what a "modernized" Miss Frizzle is.
That and I hope they don't have a lame theme cause the original is really catchy

    A lesbian?

  • Gilda Jun 24, 2014

prob. that &/or make her a cartoon version of Zooey Deschanel

  • MichelleHood24 Jun 12, 2014

Maybe miss frizzle will be a few years older and teaching an older group of kids I really don't know I just hope they keep her wackyness.

They completely ruined bananas in pajamas.

At least I'm not the only one who thinks so.

I LOVED The Magic School Bus - books and show. I still watch an episode on occasion because it brings back fun childhood memories :D

pretty much depends on how the animation is, a lot of animation today is either ugly CGI or ugly in general.

I don't care what others think, but The Magic School Bus was highly inappropriate. Ms Frizzle had no right taking those children on such dangerous field trips. I'm sure not one student had a parent signed permission slip.

ROFL! Thank you so much for that, that was pretty epic!

  • mishagirl Jun 12, 2014

Not sure if this is serious or not, but I laughed for a good minute

tv shows arent supposed to be realistic especially not childrens shows. i mean..barney, mr.rogers neighbourhood, blues clues, they all have their issues.

Well, they can't possibly make it worse than PBS did. I'm sorry, but the original was full of clever humor, which was completely absent in the show. They seemed to think the books were popular because kids liked the idea of a magic school bus. We didn't; that part was dorky -- we liked the JOKES. The show had no jokes! At least, no good ones.
