WE NEED TO TALK NEWS

... A&E is cutting off Intervention after 13 seasons and eight years of the worst surprise parties ever. According to A&E, the series will have covered 243 interventions in its lifetime, with five more episodes in its final season (debuting June 13 at 9pm). Quick! Let's all corner A&E in a room and tell it not to do this! [A&E via press release]

BUSINESS TIME

... Clive Owen and Steven Soderbergh are in talks to team up for a new Cinemax series called The Knick. Set in 1900 New York, it follows the breakthroughs in the medical industry during that era before the dawns of antibiotics and miniature robots. Owen would star, and Soderbergh would direct all 10 episodes. Soderbergh recently announced his retirement from directing, but apparently that comes with an asterisk: feature films only. [Deadline Hollywood]

... ABC Family has ordered the reality competition show Spell-Mageddon (worst show title ever?), a new twist on the classic spelling bee. Contestants—the network didn't specify how old they'll be—will spell words while "hilarious distractions" try to knock them off their game. It's being described as a spelling bee meets Wipeout. Sounds kind of D-U-M to me. [ABC Family via press release]

SCHEDULING AND NAME CHANGES

... The Season 2 premiere of The CW's ballet-focused reality series Breaking Pointe has been moved up! Originally scheduled to debut July 29, it will now begin on July 22. Now it can be canceled that much sooner. [The CW via press release]

... Hey! That upcoming Syfy show Notorious Hauntings about paranormal investigators who check out historical sites? It's now called Killer Contact. And it will debut July 16 at 10pm. You're welcome. [Syfy via press release]

... Starz's next original series The White Queen will premiere on Saturday, August 10 at 9pm. Co-produced by the BBC, it's an adaptation of Phillipa Gregory's novels about England's War of the Roses. Rebecca Ferguson, Max Irons, Janet McTeer, and James Frain star. [Starz via press release]

CASTING NEWS

... FX's Sons of Anarchy is bringing in one of TV's most trustworthy performers next season. CCH Pounder (The Shield) is joining the Season 6 cast as Tyne Patterson, a District Attorney who doesn't play nice with SAMCRO and their violent methods. The move reunites Pounder with Sons creator Kurt Sutter, who was a writer on The Shield. [EW]

... DirecTV's upcoming high-concept series Full Circle from Neil LaBute is assembling an impressive cast. David Boreanaz (Bones), Kate Walsh (Private Practice), Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights), Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck), Tom Felton (Harry Potter), and Ally Sheedy (The Breakfast Club) have all joined the drama, which follows restaurant conversations between two different characters in each episode, with one of the characters talking to a new character each week until the "full circle" is complete. The DirecTV exclusive is looking at a fall 2013 premiere. [THR]

... Community's Jim Rash will be the host of Sundance Channel's The Writers' Room, a 30-minute roundtable examining some of television's best series and the writers who pen them. Among the shows being featured are Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, New Girl, and American Horror Story. The Writers' Room debuts July 29.

... You can take Kelly Clarkson's name out of the running for next season's panel of American Idol judges. A day after reports hinted that the reality show is trying to shake things up by looking at former Idol favorites to return as judges, Clarkson's rep has said the singer won't be judging the show next season. Now that that's out of the way, hopefully we can get started on the next completely stupid unsubstantiated rumor. [THR]

The Emmy award winning series Intervention? Are you sure? This is one of A&E;'s top series! TV shows are getting cancelled left and right!

  • christieg77 May 25, 2013

Yeah I'm confused by this one as well, not sure why they would do that. It's not only a really good show but it actually helps save peoples lives.

  • Raccoon1459 May 25, 2013

It is a pretty good show. It helps those who desperately need help.

What does "Killer Contact" have to do with haunted historical sites? Wasn't the first title better? Unless, for legal reasons, they couldn't use it, why not "Haunted History", "Historically Haunted", or something similar?

  • JT_Kirk May 24, 2013

"Worst surprise parties ever", good one Tim!

Wasn't there already a game show where guests were distracted on purpose? I feel like there was, but can't think of what that'd be. Why is that clown punching a dog in the face over there?

Eat a dick, Siffy. Your awful "reality" shows are the death of your turd of a network, you are now actively making viewers stupider. Also you have no science fiction programming anymore.

Goddamnit, Jim Rash's The Writers Room sounds awesome and I still don't have Sundance Channel! The guy is an Oscar-winning writer and great as Dean Pelton on Community.

Maybe you're thinking of Killer Karaoke? It's at least kinda in the same vein.

  • JT_Kirk May 25, 2013

I hope I'm not, but yeah, that probably was it.

  • J_Pip May 24, 2013

Love Sons of Anarchy, love the shield, not that crazy about CCH Pounder... hmph oh well still going to be a great season

  • ludoTV May 24, 2013

Every time I read 'high concept' it translates in my head as self important boring bullshit and a few rudder words but sure Full Circle deserves at least a chance so let's check it out... one conversation per episode sounds so boring it has to be interesting....

Soderbergh's projects seem to result in something amazingly good or super-awful so let's see... Clive Owen's a good actor and the topic intriguing so... it could perhaps be good... after all the shit new shows this season, there has to be at least one good one next season...

  • tamaabi May 24, 2013

Full Circle might be pretty amazing. I shall be looking forward to that!

  • pamelliajohns May 24, 2013

So one reality show gets cancelled, but several new ones are in the works...seems like one step forward and several steps back.

Full Circle: Amazing cast, but each episode consists of a conversation? Boring!!

  • dark7angel May 24, 2013

Looking forward to seeing The White Queen!

  • AndreaMcCooey May 24, 2013

Wow, that Full Circle show sounds quite interesting. And what a cast!

  • sleepy-sonic May 24, 2013

Claudette is back in the game :)
