RENEWALS, CANCELLATIONS, AND NOT-DEAD-YET NEWS

... A&E; has canceled its original drama Breakout Kings just a few weeks after the show's Season 2 finale. Showrunner and co-creator Matt Olmstead recently agreed to head things up on NBC's firefighter drama Chicago Fire, so I guess we should have seen this coming. Why didn't any of you warn me? [Deadline Hollywood]

... Just keep the pants! MTV has axed hipster comedy I Just Want My Pants Back after one season. The show was about 20-something kids having fun and sex in New York City. This show would have made it if it was about hipster vampires. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Oxygen has renewed Best Ink for a second season. But it still hasn't answered the following question: "Why the fudge does Oxygen have a tattoo competition show?" Maybe that cliffhanger will be answered in Season 2! [THR]

... After five seasons and countless restraining orders against pervy old guys, iCarly will come to an end on Nickelodeon. The show will go out with a special that's going to air in November. The show will be replaced by iCarly S, which will be a massive disappointment to those who've been waiting for iCarly 2. Technology humor is always great when it's like six months late! [TV Guide]

... One pilot I was bummed didn't get picked up for the 2012-2013 season was The CW's The Selection. But fear not, fans of shows looking to capitalize on The Hunger Games: The project is being tweaked and redeveloped for a shot at midseason! The young-adult drama stars Aimee Teagarden (Friday Night Lights) as a girl who wins a lottery to compete for the prince's hand in a war-ravaged nation 300 years in the future. Also still in the mix is Eric Kripke's adaptation of the comic Deadman. [The Wrap]

BUSINESS TIME

... A regular episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live beat The Tonight Show With Jay Leno for the first time ever. Suck it, Leno. [TV By the Numbers]

... USA announced a few new projects at its Upfront presentation today. The cable channel has ordered pilots for comedies Paging Dr. Freed, about a pair of gynecologist brothers, and Sirens, about EMTs in Chicago. It's also ordered a pilot for Bride or Best Man, a reality show that has a groom and his best man plan the groom's entire wedding. Yes, that's an actual show. [Deadline Hollywood]

... USA will also expand WWE Monday Night Raw, a scripted tale of athletics and homoeroticism, to three hours because people love this stuff for some reason. I'll stick to providing commentary on my cat's wrestling matches. [Deadline Hollywood]

CASTING NEWS

... Tyra Banks has descended from the clouds to make some decisions regarding America's Next Top Model. She's hired reality star Kelly Cutrone, model Rob Evans, and stylist Johnny Wujek to join the reality show next season. Who times three? [TooFab]

... Nikita's Noah Bean has been promoted to series regular. Congratulations, Noah! Glad to have you on board to continue playing [looks up his character] CIA agent Ryan Fletcher! You're the best. [TV Line]

... There've been a lot of questions concerning which actors will be leaving Glee after this season, what with graduation, diva demands, and 15 minutes of fame running out. Well creator Ryan Murphy has spoken up about the subject and said that no one is leaving! Hooray! I'm sure we can all trust what Murphy says because he never changes his mind or sticks his foot in his mouth. [Vulture]

"I Just Want My Pants Back" was a terrible show. So, I'm glad it was cancelled. I'm sad to see "iCarly" coming to an end, though.

Please help me tell A&E; they made a mistake taking Breakout Kings off the air!

Go here for details on how to help --> http://wp.me/pTY4f-tZ and please help me spread the word!

As fans, we need to be heard and let it be known that it's simply not okay to pull shows before the writers have a chance to finish their story.

I can not believe they canceled Breakout Kings. I thought it was safe. First Awake and now this. Unacceptable.

What?! Augh!!! I loved Break Out Kings! Wasn't it also doing pretty well in the ratings? Not cool, A&E.; :(

  • memizz May 20, 2012

I hope none of the actors are leaving Glee! If Ryan Murphy changes his mind I am gonna fly over there and personally kick him in the nuts!

    NOT BREAKOUT KINGS!!! craaaaaaaap

  • bluemystique May 20, 2012

Glad to hear The Selection is being considered. Initially thought the CW was insane for not capitalizing off the Hunger Games phenomenon. Maybe they aren't as dense as they've been coming across...then again...maybe they are.

Soooo how does Ryan Murphy pull off kids graduating and it still being about high school show choir?

  • bluemystique May 20, 2012

This year's cancellations are hitting me hard...some of these decisions are unfathomable! Breakout Kings? Really? To say that I'm livid about that would be an understatement. I didn't even see that one coming. It wasn't even on my list of concerns because it's freaking Breakout Kings!Who'd send Jimmi Simpson's Lloyd Lowery shuffling and mumbling off into the abyss? That was the only reason I even tuned into A&E.; They have a whole show dedicated to freaking parking but they axe BOK? What a travesty.
