News Briefs: Britney Is Now an Ex-X Factor Judge

By Tim Surette

Jan 11, 2013

... After one season of pretending to know what she's talking about, Britney Spears has quit the judging table of Fox's The X Factor. But it doesn't appear to be a "Britney has decided to move on to other things" decision as much as it's a "You can't fire me, fuck you I quit" type of scenario. Apparently, Britney's camp knew she wouldn't be asked back for a second season so Britney proactively quit before she could get pink-slipped. But that means she won't get unemployment benefits! [Deadline Hollywood]

... TNT is expanding its reality slate with another unscripted program. Save Our Business will follow U.K. businesschum Peter Jones (Dragon's Den) as he tours America saving small businesses that are on the rocks. Six episodes have been ordered. Yesterday, TNT greenlit Cold Justice, another reality program following a pair of ladies who solve crimes. TNT! We know docu-drama! [TNT via press release]

... E! has asked for more of Whitney Cummings' talk show Love You, Mean It with Whitney Cummings despite the show's title being completely irritating. Expect six more episodes of Cummings talking about things, because Cummings is one of Chelsea Handler's girls. Look out! Handler is the white alcoholic Oprah. [TV Guide]

... I think we can put an end to this trend of semi-celebrities jumping off of high things into pools. Fox's Stars in Danger: The High Dive, the first of two celebrity high-diving reality competitions planned for this season, cannonballed onto asphalt yesterday with just 3.37 million viewers and a 1.3 adult demo rating. [TV Line]

... Heroes' Ali Larter is pretty. She's also the new female lead of TNT's Legends, where she'll star opposite Sean Bean. In the upcoming drama, Bean pays a CIA man who specializes in going undercover. Larter will play a fellow agent. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Niecy Nash (Reno 911) will guest-star on Ben and Kate. She'll play the wife of Rob Corddry's character who has a bone to pick with BJ. [TV Line]

... Nip/Tuck's Dylan Walsh will visit ABC's Castle for a few episodes in February. Walsh will play an FBI investigator who works a case with Castle and Beckett. [TV Line]

... Game of Thrones actor Wilko Johnson, who plays royal executioner Ilyn Payne, has been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. Johnson, who is also a musician, has decided not to undergo chemotherapy, and will spend the next few months touring Europe on a farewell tour. [TV Guide]

I don't even know why this is considered news.

The only reason people were talking about The X Factor this season was Britney, first how she looked horrible, then how she was melting down, and finally how she was a loony who actually seemed interesting as a judge. That was the first 3 weeks of the show, then folks stopped talking about it altogether because WHO GIVES A CRAP ABOUT THE X FACTOR ASIDE FROM SIMON COWELL?

Oh TNT, why are you making reality shows? You generally suck at it, and both of those sound bad.

Whitney Cummings' talk show is far more tolerable than Chelsea Handler's mainly because Whitney seems to have some level of humility, she bulldozes her targets without the nasty bitter arrogance that Chelsea does. That said, I won't watch another episode without some level of bribery.

My god, 3.4 million people actually tuned into the celebrity diving ripoff, what is this country coming to? That's 1 percent of the nation - they should probably not be allowed to vote now.

Niecy Nash married to Rob Corddry? Holy crap, that's going to be like cats in a sack! They're both such big abrasive personalities, that sounds like fun.

Oh SH*T! I was soo looking forward to Ser Ilyn and Jaime buddying it up in the riverlands :'( (Not really a spoiler is it?)

"Love you Mean it" is actually a decent show. Cummings is a better than average comic. It boggles the mind as to why Whitney is so unbelievably bad.

And shouldn't it really be called "stars" in "danger"

How long until Sean Bean dies in this show?

    sad news is sad :(

How the Stars in Danger special ever got greenlit in the first place to air is beyond me...

It's the network that put on "The Choice", a ripoff of "The Voice" complete with blind auditions and spinning chairs, except instead of talent it's a celebrity dating show. Fox does not have a level they won't sink to.

  • maritimer00 Jan 11, 2013

Even seeing the ads of celebrities cringing at diving with high profile coaches looking on made me think Fox has never learned its mistakes from shows like "The Will" and that Apprentice ripoff which had an orangutan as the "boss".

They aired "Celebrity Boxing" in 2002, it was ugly. They aired "Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire" in 2000 and followed that up with "Married by America" 3 years later the same year they aired a dating show hosted by Monica Lewinsky, they learn nothing except that people will tune in to trash TV no matter how awful they make it.

Legends: Ali Larter will have several multiple personalities, one of whom will murder Sean Bean in the episode before the season finale.

And I feel terrible about Wilko Johnson :(

Rob Corddry married to Niecy Nash? Oh, to be a fly on that bedroom wall...
