News Briefs: CBS's Reboot of The Odd Couple Has Found its Felix

By Kaitlin Thomas

... The battle for the role of Felix in CBS's reboot of The Odd Couple starring Matthew Perry is over. It did not go to one of the Official Recommendations, which just goes to show that CBS does not care one bit about our feelings regarding highly sought after roles in pilots. Which is a little upsetting, if I'm being honest. Why give us the Internet if we can't espouse ideas and have you listen to everything we say? Whatever. Anyway, Reno 911!'s Thomas Lennon will now be the Felix to Perry's Oscar. In hindsight, I can't believe he didn't make our list. His casting is kind of perfect, don't you think? Perry and Lennon co-starred together in 17 Again which is a movie I know nothing about and definitely didn't see in theaters. [TV Line]

... Quick, grab your gun and bring in the cat! The end of the world is upon us. Famous In 12, a new reality series from The CW, will premiere Tuesday, June 3 at 8pm. The unscripted series is a social experiment that follows a fame-obsessed family (please say it's the Lohans, please say it's the Lohans) around the clock for 12 weeks as they attempt to become famous through a number of opportunities provided to them by TMZ. In related news, the rest of news briefs will be written from the safety of my underground bunker. [The CW via press release]

... Nickelodeon has ordered three new series. First up is the crime-fighting comedy Henry Danger, which follows a 13-year-old boy who lands a part-time job as Kid Danger, the sidekick-in-training to super crime fighter Captain Man. Bella and the Bullfrogs is the story of Bella, a popular Texas cheerleader who eventually finds herself the quarterback of the football team. Lastly, Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn follows quadruplets, but specifically 10-year-old girl Dawn's rivalry with her three brothers. [Deadline]

... Syfy is getting back into the miniseries business. Coming in November 2014 is the six-hour series Ascension from Philip Levens. Ascension follows a group of hundreds of men, women, and children who embarked on a century-long voyage aboard the starship Ascension in 1963. Their mission was to populate a new world. Fifty years in to their journey, however, a young woman is murdered which causes the rest of the ship's population to question their mission. [Syfy via press release]

... Showtime has ordered Billions, a new project from Andrew Ross Sorkin (Too Big To Fail), Brian Koppelman, and David Levien (Ocean's Thirteen, Rounders), to pilot. The drama, like everything else in life, is about money. It focuses on the relationship between an aggressive U.S. attorney in New York and a bunch of rich hedge fund billionaires. This is Showtime's first pilot order this season. [Showtime via press release]

... John Cho has been cast as the male lead in ABC's new comedy pilot Selfie, which stars Doctor Who's Karen Gillan as a social media-obsessed woman who suffers a humiliating breakup and eventually becomes a viral sensation. Cho will play Henry, her co-worker and the marketing expert who decides to re-brand her. Despite this news, I refuse to give up hope that we'll see Evil John Cho again on Sleepy Hollow. [EW]

... Jorge Garcia, who plays Jerry Ortega, a conspiracy theorist and former high school classmate Daniel Dae Kim's character on Hawaii Five-0, has been upped to a series regular for the just announced fifth season. He previously appeared in two episodes. [THR]

... This isn't really casting news, but whatever: There's a new clone at Clone High on Orphan Black! Jennifer Fitzsimmons, played by Tatiana Maslany (obviously) is a new clone (is she the bald clone we saw at the end of the new trailer?). We'll meet her through her video diaries. She's a midwest gal sick with the same disease currently affecting Cosima. EW has the first image, and I'll be honest, she doesn't look great y'all. [EW]

... Maggie Grace (Lost) has joined the cast of CBS's new Wall Street drama from Justified scribes Taylor Elmore and Ben Cavell. The pilot stars Charlie Cox (Boardwalk Empire) as Jackson a hedge fund trader who fought in Iraq and has a general desire to do good. Grace will play Jaime, the ambitious in-house legal counsel for the hedge fund. The pilot is produced by John Cusack. [THR]

Amazing that Perry and Lennon both were involved with a Zac Efron movie. And Lennon was on Sean Saves the World. They're both too talented to stoop that low.

I hate the idea of regurgitating same premises over and over again, but admittedly an Odd Couple starring Perry and Lennon sounds good. I wish Lennon were doing something that involving the German accents he tends to use. Hilarious.

The Odd Couple could be good, as long as the leads don't try and out do one another.
What's with all the money shows now? Who really gives a damn about Wall Street and hedge fund funts - guess which two words are spliced?
I wonder how long before a 'new line' of clones turns up on Orphan Black?

Thomas Lennon is a great casting, in fact now it's kinda put The Odd Couple on my radar for next season.

I am kinda surprised that H50 got renewed, I am happy that Jorge Garcia is getting more work. He's really the only thing I love when I think back to that mess that was Lost.

I'm more excited about Tom Lennon than Mathew Perry... not that I'm excited about The Odd Couple remake :P

  • Muderboy Mar 14, 2014

You know, you can still get the real Odd Couple series--which is timeless. Let's just not watch this remake at all--that'll show 'em!

Tom Lennon is great, but does he have chemistry with Matthew Perry as a roommate? He can be a comedy chameleon, so he could play Oscar or Felix, but I am unsure if he can do it against Matthew Perry week after week. Interesting choice though.

Famous in 12, so that's the next forgotten piece of crap, great job The CW/TMZ/Warner Bros. At least you'll be a Jeopardy question

Siffy needs to get back into the sci-fi business. And really, a murder plot on a starship? Kinda been done.

Ascension sounds strange. They question the whole mission just because someone is killed after fifty years?

  • Homerman92 Mar 14, 2014

So the CW have basically just ordered a real life version of zach stone is gonna be famous

  • Akyriel Mar 14, 2014

I'm not that familiar with Lennon, but it does nothing to make me want to watch Odd Couple. Perry was OK, but Lennon does not seem the Felix type and maybe too similar to Perry. Maybe he'll surprise you and hopefully be rid of the mustache. Cho might have been a good choice and I did like the possibility of Sean Hayes.

Why would CBS not care about casting suggestions? They own this site!

More Nick shows they will throw on in whatever order they please at whatever day they please at whatever time they please so they can cancel them to marathon them forever after.
