BROWNCOAT REUNION NEWS

... Joss Whedon's sci-fi series Firefly isn't forgotten by fans and it isn't forgotten by Comic-Con, either. In celebration of the series' tenth anniversary, it will get its own panel with Whedon, writer Tim Minear, and stars Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Adam Baldwin, Sean Maher, Michael Fairman, and "the rest of the crew of Serenity." No, there was no mention of Summer Glau anywhere, keep your pants on. The Browncoats will gather on Friday, July 13 at 12:30pm in Ballroom 20. [Science Channel via press release]

BUSINESS TIME

... In non-news news, the entire cast of Community will return for Season 4. I guess this is worth noting because Chevy Chase was quoted in April as saying he wouldn't be around much longer. Perhaps that was the spirit of Dan Harmon speaking through him? Anyway, this news is totally YAY even if it's telling us stuff we already thought would happen. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Game of Thrones' world tour will continue in Season 3. The fantasy drama will continue to shoot in Iceland, Croatia, and Ireland, plus it will add Morocco for Dany's storyline (The Unsullen!!!). Also, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will both take turns directing an episode, but Alan Taylor, who directed most of the awesome episodes in the first two seasons, won't be behind the camera. He'll be filming some movie called Thor 2. [HBO via press release]

... Shark Week is still a thing. Discovery has released some information on the programming that will appear in this year's toothy fish fest, and it will all feature scary and informative tales about sharks. Can't we retire this thing already? Does anyone still get excited for Shark Week beside Discovery and Australian shark experts? [Discovery]

CASTING NEWS

... Breaking Bad has cast Scottish actress Laura Fraser to play a former buddy of Gus Fring who's "nervous about her place in the world." You know, if you don't want to tell us about her character just don't say anything because now we're just confused. [EW]

... Rob Morrow (Numb3rs, Northern Exposure) will guest-star on CSI:NY when the season begins this fall. He'll play a former arsonist who's prodded by the police for advice on a case. [TV Line]

... Roseanne Barr's Comedy Central roast has a host! Jane Lynch (Glee) will emcee the insult shower on the former Roseanne star, which will air August 12. Here's hoping that Lynch can find something about Barr to make fun of. [Comedy Central via press release]

... The Office is losing another person sorta next season. B.J. Novak, who plays Ryan, has demoted himself to recurring status on the show probably because he knows when it's time to leave a sinking ship. [TV Guide]

... The Good Wife continues to fill its cast with familiar faces. After adding Maura Tierney and Kristin Chenoweth earlier this week, the CBS legal drama has announced that Nathan Lane will appear in several episodes. He'll play an accountant looking to cut corners at Lockhart & Gardner, something all lawyers love. [CBS via press release]

My AIM back in 2005 was F1reF1ies (direct homage to Firefly). Even though AIM has kinda died, it still gives me good memories.

I wish I wasnt so far from Comic-Con. Would freaking love to be at that Firefly panel.

  • Draconax Jun 29, 2012

Ugh normally I'm not jealous of people attending comic-con, but fuck I really wish I could be at that panel.

  • JT_Kirk Jun 29, 2012

Crap! I really want to be at that Firefly panel, but Friday at Comic-Con I usually have a number of other panels and stuff I absolutely have to cover. Putting the Firefly panel against Star Wars day panels seems a little unfair as well. Hopefully this will be a panel they replay that night.

I am glad to hear Chevy is coming back, but now that they've announced no Dan Harmon, I'm not excited anymore about Community news.

I might have to start watching The Good Wife just to see some favorite actors.

  • Placebo_obecalP Jun 29, 2012

I'd suggest watching it from the beginning it's really a superb drama which belies its title and premise.

I miss firefly even more just reading about this. Anyone watch fox's 25 anniversary special where they said they take a chance in the scifi genre and showed clips from firefly and dollhouse? Made me turn the channel.

  • KevinG87 Jun 29, 2012

if by take a chance they mean don't give it one, then yes totally true

  • MintberryCrunch Jun 28, 2012

Impending announcement of Firefly's return? We can dream.

    Unsullen?! ---> Unsullied

There was no mention of Summer Glau because they don't want the reunion to get canceled.
