HAPPY THANKSGIVING, MIKE ROWE

... Discovery Channel is delivering a blow to anyone out there who likes to watch people shovel pig shit. The network has canceled the long-running reality show Dirty Jobs, according to host Mike Rowe. Dirty Jobs was one of the first reality shows to focus on jobs that white-collar pansies aren't familiar with and made Rowe a household name and pitchman for trucks. [Huffington Post]

ODDS AND ENDS IN A SHORT WEEK

... Because it's Thanksgiving weekend here in the US of A and TV news is as common as a family of turkeys crying over the senseless slaughter of their mother, let's take a look at some comedy ratings even though they'll be tainted by everyone's holiday travel. The Mindy Project (1.3), The New Normal (1.6), Ben and Kate (1.1), Happy Endings (1.2), and Don't Trust the B---- in Apt. 23 (0.9) all hit series lows in the adult demo last night. Way to go, comedy! [Deadline Hollywood]

... Comedy producer Judd Apatow has announced that a spec script (read: an unsolicited script) he wrote for The Simpsons in 1990 is actually going to be made. Basically The Simpsons' producers got wind that Apatow had written one and decided to use it; the plot involves Homer getting hypnotized into believing he's the same age as Bart. Which, as The A.V. Club points out, is very similar to an episode the show has already aired. [The A.V. Club]

... The December 17th episode of How I Met Your Mother will be super-sized to an hour, the first jumbo episode of the comedy ever. No word on what will happen in it, though. [TV Line]

... Dennis Farina (Luck) has been booked as Nick's con-man dad on New Girl, which sounds like some pretty great casting to me. Look for it in January. [TV Line]

... Most importantly, have a Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your long weekend off. For those of you who don't celebrate Thanksgiving, eat whatever birds you can find until you can't eat anymore. I love you all! [Tim Surette]

It's always interesting to watch Dirty Jobs and find out how some jobs work. Maybe now I have time to catch up Dirty Jobs with Peter Schmeichel: European Edition.

I thought Dirty Jobs was canned 2 seasons back, haven't seen a peep about it in ages. If you don't do marketing, folks, you don't get viewers.

Judd Apatow's script doesn't sound like it'll follow the same tack at least, and if it was written in the show's first year it should prove to feel quite different. Quite the interesting idea to use this.

Oh boy, an hour-long episode of HIMYM where nothing is advanced instead of a normal half-hour one, hooray.

It only goes to prove that the Simpsons is out of ideas and is just copying itself.

After three decades of being on-air, with most of their episodes at this point being quite average, if not straight-up bad, it's actually amazing that "The Simpsons" haven't double-dipped in their own storylines more often. Frankly, I'm pretty damn sure it's not the first time they've repeated an episode...

Sad about Dirty Jobs, a very good show and it will be missed. Excited to see Dennis Farina on New Girl, should be very interesting and hilarious to watch since we don't really know much about Nick's family.
