... Gerald Shargel, attorney for alleged David Letterman-extorter Joe Halderman, appeared on Today professing his client's innocence. He said that Letterman "didn't give his [Halderman's] side of the story." Shragel then used the classic "my client isn't dumb enough to blackmail someone by check, so he must be innocent" defense. [THR]

... Mark Burnett, creator of Survivor and lots of other shows, is reviving Fantasy Island as a reality show. Contestants will come to the island hoping to see their fantasy fulfilled, and then compete to ruin everyone else's chance. So it's Survivor, but with hotel rooms and real food. [Variety]

... MTV will air the late DJ AM's reality show about getting sober starting Oct. 12. AM died of an accidental drug overdose in August, shortly after finishing production on the show. [Variety]

... CBS has renewed Canadian police procedural Flashpoint for a third season. The show stars Enrico Colantoni and is surprisingly not about Mounties, hockey, or maple syrup. [THR]

... After what the press release calls "record-breaking viewership," Californication is getting a fourth season. It will air sometime in 2010.

... Bravo has ordered a seventh season of Top Chef, a second season of Real Housewives of New Jersey, and an inaugural season of Real Housewives of Washtington, D.C. [THR]

Flashpoint is a great action packed and emotion filled show. I hope it eventually gets a full season order of episodes through CBS, CTV, and the Canadian production. This is one of the best shows as a result of the screen writers strike.

Flashpoint, like Canada, has much more depth than just hockey, maple syrup and Mounties, all of which however, speak well of us and make us proud...Mr. Griff...
