MACFARLANE'S PLANS FOR WORLD DOMINATION CONTINUE NEWS

... Seth MacFarlane, the mind behind Family Guy and the Family Guy-ish American Dad and the Family Guy-ish The Cleveland Show, is getting into live-action TV. Fox has ordered six episodes of Dads, a multi-camera comedy about 30-something guys who are enjoying life until they unexpectedly become fathers their dads move in with them! *slide-whistle noise* [TV Line]

BUSINESS TIME

... TBS has officially canceled The Wedding Band, but we pretty much knew that already. The one-hour dramedy ran for 10 episodes, and TBS aired it in the super-horrible time period of Saturdays at 10pm. [THR]

... Fox's The Following got off to a killer (ha!) start on Monday, with 10.4 million viewers and a 3.1 rating in the adult demo. Before you say YEAH BOYEEEEEEEE you should know that those numbers are lower than the debut outings of both Alcatraz and Terra Nova, which were also much-promoted and once occupied the Monday night 9pm slot. (My review of the series premiere is here and it is not kind.) [TV Guide]

... The Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons is keeping it nerdy by bringing the web series Prodigies to mainstream television. The docu-series will follow young geniuses as they earn praise and struggle because of their gifts. When I was young, I was a prodigy: I could play Nintendo for HOURS. [THR]

... HBO is developing a movie based on its canceled series Bored to Death. Creator Jonathan Ames will write the screenplay and its three stars Jason Schwartzman, Zach Galifianakis, and Ted Danson would possibly return. OR HBO maybe instead you can put into development the Deadwood movie that we've all been waiting for instead of this show that hardly anyone watched. But you know, that's just advice from me, Tim Surette, child prodigy. [Deadline Hollywood]

CASTING NEWS

... SUMMER GLAU SUMMER GLAU SUMMER GLAU I hope this found your Google Alert for "Summer Glau." Summer Glau will guest-star on CBS's Hawaii Five-0. Summer Glau will play a woman looking for the man (or woman or dolphin) who killed her father. Summer Glau's character will also have links to an underground fighting ring. Summer Glau last appeared on Syfy's Alphas. Summer Glau. (Firefly) [Digital Spy]

... Sally Pressman used to be on a show called Army Wives, but it was on Lifetime so no one knew so it may as well have existed solely in the heads of Lifetime press-release writers. But that show was canceled, and now Pressman has nabbed the lead in NBC's multi-camera comedy Joe, Joe, and Jane. I'm assuming she plays Jane, but maybe this is a show that will teach everyone a lesson in gender identity. [TV Line]

... HBO's The Newsroom has found a replacement for Rosemarie DeWitt, who joined the show and left it even faster due to "scheduling problems." Taking her place as a lawyer who defends ACN in a wrongful termination suit will be Oscar-nominee Marcia Gay Harden (Damages). [EW]

... Bill Hader will play David Hasselhoff's character in the upcoming film spoof of Baywatch. Okay, let's move on. [The Wrap]

... Daniel Gillies will reprise his role as Elijah in the upcoming The Vampire Diaries spin-off The Originals. The potential series will launch as a backdoor pilot in the April 25 episode of The Vampire Diaries. Price, is this a good decision? ... Price? Hello, Price? Has anyone seen Price? [TV Guide]

... James Brolin will guest-star on ABC's Castle as Richard Castle's... is it A) dad or B) Evil twin who had plastic surgery to look just like James Brolin? If you answered a) dad, you are correct. If you answered b) Evil twin who had plastic surgery to look just like James Brolin, then we can hang out and be friends. [TV Line]

... True Blood has added a pair of fresh faces. Friday Night Lights' Jurnee Smollett will be a series regular on the vampire drama playing do-gooder Nicole. 90210's Amelia Rose Blaire has also been cast, in the recurring role of Willa, the daughter of the Louisiana Governor. If you get a chance to see Smollett in the trailer for Tyler Perry's Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor, do it, because it's HILARIOUS. [TV Line]

Another live-action series? But The Winner did terrible in ratings.

I have nothing against the following issue, but I really need to ask...
Has anybody mentioned/noticed that Seth MacFarlane is SUPER-GAY, yet?
Has society completely accepted gays, while at the same time, continuing to have that never-ending stereotypical BLACK and WHITE problem? What's up with that?
"Ellen" gets kicked off TV for being gay, and NOW she is the female equivalent of GOD?
    What's really going on here?
    VERY CONFUSING.

This is about Seth MacFarlane here, not Vampire Diaries (Is that show really ending?) or any other show mentioned. Seth MacFarlene though is making a Flintstones show this year though.

  • AshleyDykeman Jan 24, 2013

Damn you for mentioning Price! It's only been one Thursday and I already feel an empty whole in my heart where recaps lived. *sobs uncontrollably again* PRICEEEEEEEEEE....

  • myaddow Jan 25, 2013

  • emmy021889 Jan 24, 2013

I'm pretty darn stoked on the idea of a " Bored To Death " movie . The show was well written , funny and fresh , I'd never seen anything quite like it , and thought I never would again . I sure hope they can lock down all the original cast members . ie. T.D & Z.G. , as I'm sure it would be a no go all together if Schwartzman wasnt game.

Your blurb makes it sound like Dads is Seth McFarlane's first foray into live-action, but didn't he do a live-action show on Fox with Rob Cordry years ago? Also, Marcia Gay Harden wasn't just nominated for an Oscar, she won an Oscar (for Pollack). It didn't take being a child prodigy to google "Marcia Gay Harden, Oscar" to suss that out.

  • JesterK Jan 24, 2013

I had forgotten about that show, The Winner. It was actually pretty good.

  • myaddow Jan 23, 2013

So Summer Glau will be appearing on Hawaii Five 0, eh? RIP Hawaii Five 0...I wonder what will take it's time slot.

  • feramy05 Jan 23, 2013

Poor Summer Glau. To be fair though, she appeared on Alphas several times and that show is still around.

  • ben45tpy Jan 23, 2013

Um I hate to break the bad news but you might find the world is a little more Alphas-cancelly than you think. I think the only show she hasn't killed is Grey's Anatomy, which is a pity.

  • DresserBoys Jan 24, 2013

    and TBBT.

  • DavidJackson8 Jan 24, 2013

    @myaddow

TBBT = The Big Bang Theory. The ONE show Summer's appeared on that hasn't been canceled.

And yes, as ben45tpy said, Alphas was canceled.

  • myaddow Jan 24, 2013

    TBBT?

  • JohnCouto Jan 23, 2013

After I caught a marathon of the wedding band, I actually started to like it. Sad that its going.

    HBO, DEADWOOD MOVIE PLEASEEE!

The following... I was very confused if I liked it or not. Do I like it? I have no idea...

  • JohnCouto Jan 23, 2013

Oh and Seth McFarland! I love him and TED was great! Can't wait
